Sage Canyon California Red Blend 2020

9.4

i asked for something interesting & unusual and this was suggested: southern Rhône varietals from CA, and it was fantastic! pours a deep rich ruby, opaque and wafting a cornucopia of aromas, intoxicating: first it was all exotic spices like clove & incense, garrigue, then it was cherry compote then it turned to raspberry pie, dried orange rind, dried herbs, pepper, etc. My first CA wine that smelled like high end CdP - liquified distilled voluptuous aromas & flavors. palate was so jam packed, med bodied, finely grained tannins, silky & suave - balanced acidity. screams old vine fruit handled well — 23 days ago

Quite perky 2022. Not modern style, much more acidity than expected. Rich robust dark fruit. Tight tannins. Really nice. — a month ago

Colson Canyon Vineyard Syrah 2005

Big, rich and ripe blue and black fruit aromas and flavors, great balance, usually Joey’s richest Syrah in every vintage, long, lingering finish, should easily last 5-10 additional years, yummy! — 2 months ago

Crazy thing I just realized when taking the bottle to my recycle bin is this was 15.6% ABV — there was no real heat, just immense ripe, rich heat?!?! Amazing!!

*fruit, NOT *heat, near the end.

Felton Road

Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2019

Rich and mouth filling in the luscious Felton Road style. Only 20% whole bunch letting the quality of the ripe fruit speak. Intense red and black fruits - raspberry to the fore. This is just a “village “ wine in comparison to their illustrious Block 3 and Block 5 but it more than holds its own. Impossible not to enjoy this wine. — a month ago

@Somm David T It’s certainly up there isn’t it David. I used to enjoy Mount Difficulty as well but don’t see it as much these days.

Yep. I enjoy the hell out of their Chardonnay but it is much more difficult to find than their Pinot in the US.

Todos Ballard Canyon Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

A blend of about 50% Syrah, rest Cab Sauv, Petit Verdot, Petite Sirah, Cab Franc, Sangiovese, Viognier & Merlot. Deep inky Ruby color with complex aromas of dark fruit, spice, almonds and wet earth. On the palate blackberry, currant and raspberry flavors, soft tannins on a long finish ending with leather, pepper, smoke and oak tones. Very Nice, a beauty. — 3 months ago
