Medium ruby in color; black cherries, plums, and cedar on the nose; medium plus acidity; medium tannins, but smooth; tastes like blackberries, cherries, and a hint of bell pepper witha long finish. Not as complex as I would like, but pretty good. — 2 years ago

On the nose, a faint cherry... On the palate, firm Italian plum, firm red cherry... Very bright up front... Above medium acidity... The finish is again felt primarily up front... Overall, not overly complex, but quite an appealing style. — 2 years ago

Mid Ruby in colour. Red fruits of cherry and strawberry with a bit of whole bunch influence on the nose. The palate showing savoury red fruits but also a little sweetness. Certainly a good future in front of it - I should try the next one in 1 to 2 years time. Tom Carson has probably never made a bad wine in his life and he has a great terroir to work with when he is not in demand for judging at Royal Shows. Tasted another bottle 65 weeks later on 24th July 2022. Quite red cherry on the nose and palate. Sooty notes from whole bunch in the ferment. The perfect balance between sweet and savoury. — 4 years ago

Quite light in colour, light crimson - transparent. Sweet red fruits - strawberry and raspberry, savoury overtones. Possibly the lightest table wine Grenache I’ve ever had. When you compare this to Rayas or Bonneau Celestins you realise what a chameleon Grenache can be. Serrat is the personal side project of Yabby Lake winemaker, Tom Carson. Only 580 bottles produced. Pepper and spice and all things nice as the saying goes as well as a violet note. Very youthful at 10 years of age. The following night a blackcurrant peppery note. Good persistence and length on the medium bodied palate. Tom Carson, the owner and winemaker of Serrat (a Catalonian word meaning close planting - in this case 8800 vines per hectare - one bottle of wine per vine). Tom is also the chief winemaker at Yabby Lake and an in demand Show Judge with a very good palate - Serrat is his private venture with French wife, Nadege. They also import a small excellent range of Burgundy. — 2 years ago

Anniversary bottle. Bought this at auction back in 2012z Tucked away in the cellar, so didn’t realize it had started to leak at some point in the last couple of years. Soaked, crumbling cork and a bit of a disaster to open, particularly since I didn’t have my normal set of wine tools available while traveling. Although a bit worse for wear, the wine showed better than expected for the bottle condition and we enjoyed a nice Anniversary toast in Carson, WA. — 2 years ago

See previous note. Quite pale in colour - transparent - a gorgeous nose, quite Burgundian. Touch of burnt ash and strawberry on the nose initially - after time in the decanter more cherry and red florals. Tom Carson is the chief winemaker at Yabby Lake and Serrat is his personal project. Tom and his French wife Nadege also import a range of excellent Burgundies. This wine has the colour, the weight and the texture of a good red Burgundy. Had the last bottle 75 weeks later on 28th February 2024 with similar notes. Many Burgundian traits - intensity without weight. Light in colour and body. Excellent winemaking from Tom Carson. 91 points. — 2 years ago
