Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Pauillac de Pichon Lalande Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

David T
9.5

Are there many/any better Pauillac second growths?

2003 a ripe, warm vintage.

Soften medium plus tannins. It’s Bordeaux lush, ruby; blackberries, black raspberries, black plum that leans into pudding, dark cherries, ripe strawberries, hues of purple & blue fruits. Dark spice w/ palate heat, nutmeg, clove , cinnamon notes, mid berry cola, some black licorice, vanillin, dark, rich forest floor with a touch of dry leaves, lead pencil shavings, dry tobacco, sandalwood to cedar, 1/2 used leather, limestone, dry, crushed rocks, dry river stone, dry herbs, dry to moist, grey, volcanic clay, fresh & withering dark, red flowers, framed in lavender & liquid violets, excellent acidity with excellent; tension, structure, balance and elegant finish that goes on and on.

First wine w/ an Allen Brothers Ribcap.

Château de Pez

Saint-Estèphe Cabernet Franc Blend 2020

2020 vintage. Supposedly from the same winemaker as Pichon-Lalande. Big. Some chunkiness. Some refined qualities. Decent thrust and balance. Value play without any specific, remarkable, go-to quality. 3.6.24. — 4 months ago

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend

An overall good wine even thow it takes a long time to opens properly.
Do not rush in driving it and give it enough decanting time.

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

2019 vintage. A bit more Merlot than Cabernet, but the latter seems to dominate the nose. — 3 months ago

Le Pauillac de Pichon Longueville Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Had this wine in december. This one was in line with my last encounter. Old school Medoc style. A lot tertiary characteristics. — 4 months ago

Réserve de la Comtesse Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

At first: yeasty and spicy tones, shoe polish, dried herbs. Then, after a few minutes: grilled pepper, open knit, balanced, ecoline paint, earthy, licorice, bacon, very complex. Love it. — a month ago

Château Fayat

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

2019 vintage. A relatively new estate, composed by buying 3 estates(Vieux Bourgneuf, Prieurs de la Commanderie, and Commanderie de Mazeyres), and renamed after the owner Clement Fayat (who also owns La Dominique and Clement Pichon). Looks a bit older than expected. Very floral nose. Medium-bodied, with red fruit, fresh acidity, slightly rustic tannin, and good length. Gets better with air. Very cheap for Pomerol in a local supermarket ( 29,90 euro),a nice bottle of wine, but nothing really special for Pomerol. — 2 months ago
