Vieilles Vignes Morgon Gamay 2020

Catching up on my notes. This was much better than the last bottle. Enjoyable, but it was crazy that this Gamay felt heavier than the Nebbiolo on the table. In its defense, it was up against Luca Roagna’s deft touch (see my notes on the 17’ Gallina). Despite its hefty structure, the Thevenet Morgon still had plenty of energy. Whole cluster goodness and plenty of red cherries. The palate was full-bodied with a supple texture. It had a touch of candied “sweetness” but plenty of acidity to keep things lively. Finished spicy with suggestions of minerality. One to revisit on a better occasion. — a month ago

Mont de Milieu Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2020

Best Chamblis to date. Heavy lime and green apple, high minerality. This borders on “be careful” level. Way too “drinkable.” Would absolutely buy again. — a month ago

Morgon Gamay 2022

Nose is fresh and bright, with tart(-ish) red berry fruit and clean stony minerals. I’m kind of surprised that a wine from a historically hot growing season is so fresh tasting. Not any great depth; it has sort of a horizontal feel, but very nice. — 2 months ago

Excellent Beauj I picked up at an independent store on Dixie Hwy…recognized Thevenet from an earlier rating….classic muddy fruity Beauj that will be really awesome in ~5yrs, but drinking well now — 6 months ago
