Great lineup & dinner with Louis Michel. He showcased his amazing wines in what he termed were difficult vintages. — a year ago
Maison L'Envoyé, The House of the Messenger, was born out of the Oregon/Burgundy partnership of Evening Land founder Mark Tarlov and Louis Michel Liger-Belair of Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair. Prior to his wine ventures Tarlov wrote speeches for Chief Justice Warren E. Burger, as well as directed the 1999 rom-com Simply Irresistible starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. I can only assume he's Frank Abagnale's little brother. This is some serious Beaujolais. Ultra pure floral notes of iris and lavender play well off the high-toned bright red fruit along with layers smoke, licorice, stone, and herbs. A stylish alloy of modern, Cru Beaujolais and rich New World decorum. — 9 years ago
Lovely wine. Everything a reasonably priced Cote Du Rhone should be, and then some. — 10 years ago
Had issues with the cork but no taint or brett. The 2007 is full of ripe fruits with notes of blackberry cobbler. Nice structure still showing good tannins on the back end. Drink now, if you have one! — 11 years ago
Custard with minerals. Incredible with Comte. — 12 years ago
Amazing night with Louis Michel tasting his release of the 18 vintage — a year ago
Beautiful maturity. Rather funky nose with just the right amount of barnyard and horse manure. Tobacco, leather, cherry fruit and a note of seared beef. Juicy and very well balanced. Very nice from a vintage often plagued with overripe fruit and heavy alcohol. — 10 years ago
Nice and surprising. Lot of raspberry jam, but dry enough. $13 — 11 years ago

Over the years, I have been very fortunate to experience a few unicorns and I guess it’s time to add one to the list. “La Romanée” is the smallest Grand Cru appellation in all of Burgundy. At just a hair over 2 acres, production from this vineyard totals roughly 300 cases per year. In contrast, DRC’s production of the directly adjacent Romanée-Conti is nearly twice that number. La Romanée is actually a Monopole of Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair but production was the responsibility of Bouchard Père & Fils for nearly 30 years. That is, until the 2006 vintage. Since then, Louis-Michel Liger-Belair has shifted that responsibility back to the Domaine.
Opened and poured into a decanter about 30min prior to service. The 1999 “La Romanée” pours a slightly deep ruby with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing, intensely sanguine, and beginning to show some signs of secondary characteristics: black cherry, bruised strawberry, roasted meat, mushrooms, and fine spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is long and has a slightly ferrous quality, again giving off those sanguine vibes. This is phenomenal, old school GC Burgundy. What a truly special treat. Drink now with patience and through 2049+. — 5 months ago
