Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

The Vineyardist 2nd label.
This one surprised me by how much air it needed to open up. Had a splash on day 1 and immediately corked it back up for a day 2 decant. Definitely not an over extracted Cabernet just to please the masses. My ratings might be higher than others but I work these wines to get the best out of them.

Interesting note I found-

The Vineyardist is a Diamond Mountain property with a long history. In the late 19th century it was purchased by a Dutch shipping captain who planted vineyards and made wine. During prohibition the vineyards were replaced with nut and prune orchards. In 2000 the property was purchased by Dirk Fulton and Becky Kukkola, who began replanting some of the 80 acres to vineyards.

I am a big fan of their main label (and argue it’s one of the most beautiful visits in the valley). Prices have gone out of my range but always enjoy the wines.

Quite a few on winebid tomorrow, I didn’t realize they have more than just one main high end label now.

Diamond Dust Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Deep Ruby color with aromas of dark fruits, spice and herb notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry and black cherry, with notes of herb pepper, licorice and herb spice notes. Fine grippy tannins, medium finish ending with fruit, cacao and spice. — 6 months ago

Gravelly Meadow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1993

Popped and poured; enjoyed out of red Solo cups over the course of a few hours. The 1993 “Gravelly Meadow” pours a deep garnet with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes o ripe and desiccate fruit: cassis, blackberries, dried red flowers, tobacco, eucalyptus, Poblano pepper, leather, cocoa, graphite, a mix of organic and inorganic earth along with some cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. This was strong showing. Drink now through 2033. — 2 months ago

Diamond Collection Black Label Claret California Cabernet Sauvignon

Excellent qpr! Upon opening, it’s somewhat subdued but half an hour later, wow! What happened?! And with food, roasted red meats, hard cheeses, grilled vegetables, it really comes alive! This is as good or better than cabs costing 2-3 times as much. Great daily drinker!! — 4 months ago

It is so open for business right now. A prime example of Napa old school. Dark fruit and resolved tannins. — 25 days ago

Magnum. PnP. Dark red color. Dark cherries and leather on the nose. Fairly sweet wine with the fruit more prevalent than anything else. Medium plus depth and medium minus finish. Good BBQ pairing. — 5 months ago
