Fratelli Minuto

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 1971

This wine was made 4 years before I was 👶
The cork came out without much of a fight. I immediately smelled berries when I popped it. Encouraging! The color in the glass is a dark/tawny brick. Almost iced tea but red-tinged.
The nose is fruity and floral; equal parts red berries and dusty, dried roses.
The first sip was a smack of cherries and eucalyptus, which in tandem make for an initial shot of cherry cough syrup. Underneath that, I distinctly taste black truffles, wet cigar, stewed tomatoes, and some blood-orange bitterness. It's very enjoyable.
Very low tannins (I was hoping for more, as 1971 was apparently a legendary year in N Italy), and plenty of gleaky acidity.
I really wish

Château d'Yquem

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 1996

Open that bottle night! We’ve had this kicking around the cellar for nearly a decade and it was time. I’ve drank many Sauternes but have dreamed of tasting Yquem since devouring Richard Olney’s monograph (and Jeremiah Tower’s descriptions of Yquem bacchanals) as a boy—yeah I was a maybe a bit precocious.

Nose of muscat grapes. A brilliant medium amber, luscious mouthfeel. Mature. Honey, almond essence, crème brûlée, coconut, candied pear. The richness sets Yquem apart. What a treat. Happy birthday

Terre d'Ancêtres Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2012

With 28-day dry aged steaks. leather and cloves on the nose. Nicely tannic to bite into the steak. Opened up beautifully. A wonderful gift from Jeremiah from his cousins in France. Privileged to share this bottle with them!! — 9 years ago

Made me nauseous and very dizzy. I tried it because of the story behind it.
