Nuova Italia, Ilchester. Fruity and slightly unexpectedly sweet. Berries, fruit. Enjoyable enough. — 10 months ago

Lovely villages wine. This vineyard sits above Clos de Tart. Punches way above its classification. Seamless. — 2 years ago

Domaine Francois Lamarche

La Grande Rue Grand Cru Monopole Pinot Noir 2017

Light medium ruby , with wide garnet rim . Slightly smoky red fruits , with red cherry , strawberry compote , cranberry , fruit pastels , slightly herbal at first and becomes more noticeable with time . On the palate quite light sweet , strawberry , cherry , red currant , with a touch of spice, slightly saline also . Velvety medium tannins, fresh acidity , good length with slightly mineral , herbal and chalky finish . This shows quite young and will be probably better in 3-5 years and will last well a further 10 . — 7 months ago

Too young, but still delicious. Blue and black fruits, nice tannic structure. Will improve over the next 5+ years. Enjoyed at Mooo in Boston. — 5 months ago

@Byron Hewett Hello Byron. I assume you meant 2021. Did you find this wine reflected the lighter vintage? Many are saying back to “traditional Burgundy “ after the warmer vintages from 2015.

I did mean 2021. My experience with’21 is that it isn’t necessarily lighter. The frost, hail and other pressures dramatically reduced the crop, but most of the wines made are still quite good. Better care in the vineyard, and careful selection of grapes made a huge difference. This wine was no shrinking violet!

Revisited outside of a restaurant setting. Out of the bottle, A dark violet, inky coloration. No translucency. Very noticeable tears on glass. On the nose, amarena cherry, blueberry, warm baking spices, pipe tobacco, vanilla, and florals. On the palate, florals, blueberry, blackberry, amarena cherry, cassis, vanilla, very full bodied and velvety mouthfeel. Long finish of predominantly blackberry and cassis. Some pipe tobacco. Medium tannins. Fruit forward, very concentrated and full bodied wine. After an hour, the nose is full on dark chocolate and pipe tobacco. The palate is heavy dark chocolate, oak and dark berry with a very, very long chocolatey finish. After more time to decant add some anise to the mix. — 7 months ago

Côtes du Rhône Villages Red Rhône Blend 2019

This medium dark wine shows plum and blackberry on the nose, with hints of black pepper and herbs. The palate brings those dark flavors amid a somewhat watery mouthfeel with medium-firm tannins. On the medium-long finish, those savory spice and herb notes come forward. I bought this for cooking, for which it was fine. It was decent as a sipper, but a little disappointing in aromas and flavors. — 3 years ago
