Pop and pour at Luce in San Francisco. A majestic dark ruby red color. On the nose: bursting from the glass are beautiful notes of plum, stewed meat, cedar, some black raspberry, smoke, floral. Taste: smooth, rich, juicy wine with dark fruit, worn leather, meaty, bitter chocolate, and a spiced graphite long finish. YUM! A day before fire up for the Kevin Hart show in SF. Cheap and fabulous!! — 2 months ago
A big boy with a clear Italian edge. Honestly, it was a difficult blind for me but JS, who brought the wine, sure did know how to make it a fun game of options. Discernible oak, JS’ chicanery, and the “Luce” like bottle shape pushed me right into the Super Tuscan camp. Then bam! A Montelpuciano was revealed. No one got it. The wine itself was not for me, but clearly left a good impression for others on the table. Ripe and sweet cherries, plums, toasty wood, smoke, tobacco, warm earth, and a touch of vanilla. — 2 years ago
1986 vintage. Château Loumède, Premières Côtes de Blaye. What a nice surprise! Merlot Noir 50%, Cabernet Sauvignon 35% et Côt Rouge (Malbec) in the commune of Sainte-Luce. Opens up nicely after an hour with delicate aromas of tobacco and leather. A fresh and elegant light-weight with good length. A pleasure to drink. Abv. 12,5%. — 3 years ago
Delectable Wine

A delicate whiff of dusty dried violets gives way to cedary spice and crushed plums as the 2020 Luce slowly opens in the glass. This is soothingly round and supple with cooling acidity and a tinge of minerality up front. Tart red berry fruits swirl across a stream of zesty acidity. The 2020 displays fantastic depth and concentration, tapering off long and gently tannic as black raspberries pucker the cheeks. This is a very approachable vintage of Luce, yet the balance is spot on. Nicely done. (Eric Guido, Vinous, September 2024)
