This is labeled “Grille Midi,” which may be a specific cuvée. It with peppery and astringent at first, but has loosened up considerably after an hour’s worth of air. Nose then shows very traditional hard cherry candy fruit and lots of crushed granite. In the mouth, it’s dense but fairly light on its feet. There’s still a lot of fine-grained tacky tannins integrated, suggesting to me this will keep and improve at least a couple more years. A somewhat macho style for Fleurie. — 2 years ago

Inky color. Dense and aggressive on the palate. Nose is macho, with lots of pungent purply berry fruit, lots of graphite and dark minerals. Tannins aren’t too bad though. Maybe wasn’t the wisest pull on a 90 degree evening but it’s putting on a show. — 3 years ago

A rare and special blend of Garnacha, Tintilla de Rota, and Tempranillo from the incredibly beautiful town of Ronda in Andalucia. This is an earthy, macho, and lusty wine! My friend described it as a bad boy, the kind that makes you want to behave badly. This wine has mineral aromas and flavors of dried mud and straw combined with black cherry and black currant notes that stretch into savory, meaty impressions. Tobacco and vanilla flavors linger long on the palate. With smooth tannins, and medium plus balanced acidity, this is a winner! — 5 years ago

100% Pedro Ximenez from several plots in Riofrio Alto and Cerro Macho in Montilla, aged under flor for about 8 months. Clean, precise nose with hints of rubber (surprisingly reminiscent of Riesling). Dry, mineral, citrus and melon on the palate. Good acidity — 3 years ago

What a beautiful wine. Nothing macho or international about this super Tuscan, it’s very light on its feet, combining bright iron-y mineral notes with dried rose florals and wild red berry aromas. Feels unmistakably Tuscan you’d swear there was some sangiovese. Palate is sweet on the attack, then a wash of acid takes over and hangs on beautifully, leading in to the spicy but nimble tannins that tingle, again counterbalanced by a ripe, sexy rush of fruit. Sour cherry to blood orange and everything in between. Very finessed, yet no lack of structure. Must put a few in the cellar if I can still find them around. — 3 years ago

Smokey and savory aromas and flavors of tobacco, charcoal and earth. Silky smooth tannins but flavors of dark fruit and med + acidity tell me this wine will actually continue to age even more. Quite elegant for a Toro, but still has that “macho” Toro punch! Excellent! — 5 years ago
