Clos du Roi 1er Cru Beaune Pinot Noir 2023

Lyle Fass
9.5

I love this wine. Dark and sinewy nose as it goes for this 1er Cru. Blackberry, blackberry flower, dark cherry, blueberry, almost smells like a N.Rhone Gamay/Syrah blend from Cornas. Wild. Amazing nose. 9.5 or 9.6. Loads of moss and wet earth. Really complex and compelling. Oh wow, what a palate. Like an orb. So round yet structured, sweet and deep. Blue and red fruits galore and such high quality fruit here. Best one ever. Sappy and fresh with such intensity and explosiveness but that hint of opulence and roundness is utterly compelling. A wow wine. Sick stuff. Can’t wait to see how this evolves. Dizzying complexity on the nose now. That wet/dry moss is so stunning. This is genius. After two hours superb spice on the nose. Awesome inner mouth aromas, dark fruit and energy for days. — 11 days ago

Fort Ross

Fort Ross Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019

First-rate #sonomacoastpinot #fortross producer so I could not pass up the WTSO special offer price on this fairly recent vintage. Seems to open up after a day or two in the wine fridge. Delicate nose of dried rose petal and cherries, medium bodied mouthfeel. Delicious wine but their Sea Slope Sonoma Coast lower tier offering was just as good with higher QPR. — 3 months ago

Fort Ross-Seaview Chardonnay 2022

Pale lemon color with aromas of stone fruits and blossom and spice, fruit from the Martinelli Charles Ranch, two miles in from the Pacific, aged for 12 months in 25% new oak. On the palate flavors of apple and pear with a touch of zesty lemon, crisp, with nitty vanilla notes. Nice mouthfeel, vivid acidity, medium+ finish ending with fruit, vanilla and citrus mineral character. Nice! — a month ago

Needs air but so elegant and gorgeous. Pretty. Roses, mid season. cherry, mineral and very open palate that is fleshing out minute by minute. Gorgeous, elegant tannins and very pure. Let’s see what air does. Such a wispy wine. — a month ago

Sea Slopes Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2021

Cloudy garnet color promises the vitality and exuberance of unfiltered #pinotnoir. Ripe cherry, red bramble fruit, strawberry. High-toned acidity on the palate, layered red fruit carries through. Irresistible #sonomacoast bottle that disappears quickly. — 5 months ago

While I wanted to enjoy this one it wasn’t my favorite. Was described as having some fruit present but fell short. — a month ago

Hi Shay! Same I love it. Sadly it was just a quick trip from Sacramento after kid volleyball matches ended for the day.

Château de Chamirey

Clos du Roi Mercurey Pinot Noir 2013

2013 vintage. The Premier Cru "Clos du Roi" (or sometimes spelled "Roy") is considered by many the best vineyard in Mercurey. 2013 was a challenging vintage in many respects, but this is delicious. Intriguing nose with coffee beans and cherries, intertwined with floral and herbal impressions. Very fresh in the mouth, with juicy sour cherries, subtle spices, and a slightly rustic tannic backbone. Very good length. No signs of fatigue, I wouldn't be surprised to see this holding up well for another decade. Abv. 13%. — 6 months ago
