Marine Roussel

Patricia Green Cellars

Marine Sedimentary Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir 2018

Popped, double decanted without waiting. Nose is quite Cote de Beaune-ian. Pure, sappy, just-ripe cherry, significant earthy, stony minerality. In the mouth, it still seems relatively tight in its seventh year. Good intensity, but wound-up and sporting high acidity. Seems like it needs more time in bottle (or maybe another hour or two of air). I’m impressed with the seriousness of this one, though it’s not exactly hedonistic right now. Score could easily go up over time. — 5 days ago

Marine Layer

Lyra Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2022

Don’t think I’ve had this producer before. Overall nice, better than I expected. Definitely get the Sonoma quality, in that you wouldn’t mistake this for burgundy due to the higher cola / fruit feel and less earth and mineral refinement. But it’s still a well made wine with some good persistence and clocks in at a reasonable 13.3%. — 3 months ago

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2014

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru certainly has one of the more attractive bouquets with redcurrant and cranberry, a touch of tobacco and marine aromas (cockle sheds I used to play on in the Thames Estuary). The palate is well balanced, with a touch of curry leaf on the entry and more black than red fruit. The 2014 has a firm grip with a noticeable backbone, yet the finish has plenty of freshness. Drinking well now, but there are a few years left to enjoy. (Neal Martin, Vinous, June 2024)

CroiZADe Vignereuse Duras Syrah 2019

Deep ruby color; dried herbs, plums and black cherries on the nose; high acidity; medium plus tannins; tastes like sour cherries, raspberries, and wet slate with a long finish. It's a little bitter at the end, but a very interesting wine. Not bad. I think it will pair well with the Ruben I ordered. — 2 years ago

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Delectable Wine
9.8

The 2009 Latour has an open and generous bouquet: a mixture of red and black fruit and touches of graphite and loam. This vintage displays a light marine/brine influence. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, a firm grip and superb balance. This is very focused, with impressive salinity on the finish that lingers nicely. This is an extraordinarily beautiful Latour. Tasted blind from double magnum at a 20-year retrospective at the château. (Neal Martin, Vinous, February 2024)
