See my prior notes. For a gnarly vintage, few complaints here. — a day ago

As rule of thumb, yes, but not always… for example, 2003’s, I don’t think I’ve tasted a good Napa wine from that vintage. This is not to say that there aren’t any good wines, just that I haven’t tasted any.

Drinking great. Sweet for a chardonnay but tasting great with scallops — a month ago

Modest gold color. Stone fruit, lemongrass, and maybe a hint of vanilla on the nose. Same on the palate, which is well integrated. Medium depth and finish.

Give this a little decant, revising from 94-95.

'La Carrière' Knights Valley Chardonnay 2021

So first, a caveat: This NEEDS food! It just does. When first opened I really wasn’t a fan, tried to pair it with some lighter charcuterie fare and cheese and it just did not gel. It isn’t the crisp, light bodied chard you’d expect it to be, it’s full bodied, thick, and complex, but once we found the right food, paired with steelhead salmon cooked in butter and bacon grease, wooooah, this moves like you’d found the perfect dancing partner. The color is typical Chardonnay yellow with green hues towards the middle, with strong Meyer lemon and slight dusty stone in on the nose, maybe even some leafy, vegetal notes hidden in there. — 23 days ago

Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1981

Thought there was a chance this one was corked… turned out solid. Deep ruby color. Aromas of leather, blackberry and earthy mushroom. Hanging in there with some solid licorice, baked berry and oaky finish. — 2 months ago

Napa Valley Chardonnay 2018

Good wine. Not as big and buttery as I had hoped. Had it during a power outage in an ice storm with some oysters. Some wines are made for moments like these. — 2 days ago

Freakshow The Strongest Man on Earth Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon

Laughing when I say this… the first glass tastes just as wonderful as the last glass. Often when we do tastings the last glass tastes good but later we wonder why in the world we liked it so much. This one is enjoyable from the very first sip. Regardless of the crazy label and name, it’s a great selection to enjoy with dinner and a partner. — 19 days ago

Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

DEEP red color, almost black and non-see-through. Big fruit forward nose, jammy dark ripe fruits, with hints of blood orange and violet peppered in. A big fruit palate with hints of graphite, vanilla and wood, with tight tannins that hang on and don’t let you forget, with a lithe, tight acidity that shows that it still needs some time to reach its peak, despite the pedigree. This is a prime example of modern Napa cab, dry but fruity, but bombs, American as hell, distinctive and brash, and not ready to play on the big stage, but lots of potential. — a month ago
