October 2, 2021. Dinner w/Jack D, Dean, Bridget. Wine no. 1. I have had this several times — first at Allegrini’s Villa delle Torre. 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Such a good wine! Dark fruit, smooth balanced tannins. I could drink this all night. — 3 years ago

Excellent chilled red. Fruity, muted spices, huge barnyard notes. Went well with a pizza. — 2 years ago

Le Mortelle is part of Antinori since 1999, located in the heart of Maremma in Tuscany. For me an unknown estate of Antinori so great to taste and visit this winery. The top cuvée is Ampio delle Mortelle which is produced since 2015. Only 6565 bottles made of vintage 2016🍷 — 4 years ago
The winery offers tasting notes that give wild cherry as one of the flavors. That assessment is right on the money. The red fruit - cherry, red currant - is bright and complex, with a dark, earthy edge pushing in from the side. It’s a darkly tinted wine, with a smooth mouthfeel. I paired it with a beef tenderloin for our New Year’s feast, and It was great. I also used it in a wine sauce for the meat, and it was superb. — 3 years ago

Azienda Agricola Poggio al Grillo Guado delle Casaline Bolgheri Rosso 2023, Tuscany, Italy
It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday.
Purple in color with a purplish rim.
Very aromatic nose of blue fruits and sweet cherries.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with blueberries, plums, cherries, light earth, herbs and spices.
Tangy finish with soft tannins and cherries.
This is a very tasty Merlot. A very unique wine from Bolgheri, Italy. Nicely balanced and easy drinking.
Still young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly.
Nice to see such low alcohol from this region.
Good by itself or with food.
A blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Sangiovese.
Aged in ceramic vats for 8 months.
13% alcohol by volume.
90 points.
