At Il Portico, a quaint little spot in the Jewish Ghetto. Packed with locals, we were here in January and promised we'd come back. I didn't think it would be later this year! I love Primitivo. None of the earthiness of the Brunello we'll dive into next (which we'll love) and loads of fruit. Just like its cousin from California, Mr. Zin. Smooth! — 7 years ago

Tim Fulnecky is a young, Paso Robles-based winemaker focused on Gamay: Noir, blanc and pet nat. Fruit comes from Santa Barbara County. I had the pleasure of barrel tasting this and several of his (very small) production and have great expectations for his future. — 2 years ago
Absolutely love Paul Lato’s grenaches. Made in a much more feminine style than, say, what John Alban does, this one is probably still a bit too young but was terrific just the same. Delicate yet intense, the bottle was finished before Vanessa and I realized it (always a sign that we love a wine!). I’d give it 2-3 more years in the cellar...but it’s pretty hard to resist right now! — 4 years ago
Smoke and a resinous grape with dried violet and red-black roses. There is a meaty interplay evocative of Cuban sandwiches that simultaneously points at red opium. The floral expression is so seductive! Dry entry that springs from roots in a youthful bitterness, with tannins across the ceiling. Burnt, black currant and darkest toast notes, but with a springy black lime citrus-ness acing like capillaries throughout. Shroud and thundercloud. You smack your lips, and you are literally painting with tannins and charcoal, on the dental portico of your Basilicata basilica, which is dusted with volcanic ash. Spectacular! #aglianico #AglianicoDelVulture #Titolo #ElenaFucci #DOC #basilicata #tannins #volcanic #tanninbooth #Barile #italianwines #italianred — 6 years ago

Really pretty. Wild cherry, stems, slight toast, pomegranate, fresh herbs, light color and great acid. 13% abv. — 6 months ago
