Primal

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

Meaty deep red fruit. Dark cherry, some soft herbal notes, bloody iron stuff. Still quite primal. Alcohol is noticeable but still quite balanced- particularly with time in decanter. A powerful and intense behemoth. I think this’ll take a long time and may never be pretty but great substance. — 9 months ago

The rock is primal. Earth elemental with fresh cut. Hint of pineapple and triumphant tannins coat your tongue with flavor. Minerals like a mine shaft. — 4 years ago

Château Malescasse

Cru Bourgeois Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Great vintage for Malescasse. Very primal and coarse, showing a rough outer shell of earth, coffee and barrel char notes. There’s a nicely concentrated core of dark fruit and licorice that takes time to expose. Tannins are chewy but ripe. This will be great in a few years. Love the power and intensity here. A Bdx drinker’s Bdx. — 4 years ago

Domaine de la Charbonnière

Cuvée Mourre des Perdrix Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2016

Deep seductive blue and black fruit nose. Rich, plush dark fruit with a vegetal note. Med full bodied. Luxurious and harmonious. Sweet but with enough fine tannin to provide structure. Still very primal but will develop over next 10+ yrs. yumster. — 4 years ago

Checking in on the 2016. Nose is all olive. Bacon as well. Super granite and also feral and primal. Wow. Gorgeous developmental. Some gravy. So meaty. So olivey. So N. Rhone. Classic. Palate is ripe, rich and chiseled in the 16 style. Lean and gorgeous filigree. Good depth, fresheners and impressive mid palate amplitude. Tannins clamp down initially but will mellow out. Juicy and very long. Superb. — 2 years ago

super minerals and searing acid - benefitted a great deal from an hour open. pretty red fruit, mainly pomegranate, a touch of dried leaf, backside has a metallic halo (blood? holy water?), teensy bit of orange rind, a lavish salt-wash, something almost bodily, primal, and with a color reminiscent of fresh red beet juice and deep pink peony petals it comes awfully close to breathtaking at times.... — 4 years ago

@Eric - was it too early? Debating cracking one open to give it a try!

Definitely too early by at least 2 years. I hadn’t had it before so was interested in trying a young one.
