September Oaks Vineyard

Nine Oaks

Khikhvi 2019

ESF
8.9

Fun wine, extended skin contact - looks like a Rose and tasted like one too: mix between tart red fruit & savory notes, some potpourri, fairly exotic. Palate was bit more austere, open canvas for variety of light fare. We had huge salad w/smoked salmon and it was fantastic. Balanced and dry finish, go find some Georgian wine! — 2 months ago

Château Léoville Poyferré

Saint Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2004

Delectable Wine
8.9

The 2004 Léoville-Poyferré has a light and airy bouquet with blackberry, antique bureau, forest floor and light fungal aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly dry tannins, a little austere but balanced, though I notice some attenuation and bitterness towards the finish. So-so for this estate. Tasted at the Léoville-Poyferré vertical at the château with Sara Lecompte Cuvelier. (Neal Martin, Vinous, September 2022)

J. Lohr

Seven Oaks Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon

v21. As soon as you open , pour and sniff…imagine crushing a bunch of Cabernet grapes in your hand in the barrel room of a winery, this is the smell you get opening this wine! This wine consistently over delivers.
Nose evolves to soft tobacco.
Luscious, juicy blackberry fruit. Smooth, spicy, velvety, chocolate finish. Great entertaining wine!

Vieux Château Certan

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

Delectable Wine
10

The 2020 Vieux Château Certan was picked from September 14 at a low yield of 30hl/ha. The nose might be even better than the 2019 with blackberry, black truffle, pencil shavings and a touch of sous-bois. The aromatics are heavenly, perhaps even more complex than the 2016. The palate is medium-bodied with a satin-textured entry and fabulous delineation. This is a Pomerol whose engine purrs like a vintage Rolls Royce. Maybe the 2019 has a touch more edginess on the finish but this is the real deal. It's a sensational, multi-dimensional Pomerol for the ages. Tasted at the VCC vertical in Etikhove, Belgium. Château Angélus

St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2012 Angélus has a fragrant bouquet: a mixture of red and black fruit, truffle, crushed stone and light wilted flower scents. Very pretty. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation and good acidity, quite sappy with modest depth. Fairly structured with a dash of white pepper and peppermint on the finish. This Angélus has tons of personality and is drinking well now. Tasted twice at Bordeaux Index's Ten Year-On tasting and blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting. Light bodied but had some tannin hiding in the back. Wonder if they did some whole cluster fermentation. — 2 months ago
