Stormy Weather

Domaine Dupeuble

Beaujolais Gamay

Nice bouquet, without a nice light flavor that works well in warm weather. Paired the wine with a BBQ Brisket and it was a perfect pair. The wine enhanced the flavors of the meat. Also drank it with a chicken thigh rolled in bacon and again the wine enhanced the flavor of the dish. Drank in July 2024. — 5 months ago

Château Brane-Cantenac

Grand Cru Classé en 1855 Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2007

2007 a sub par year with cool wet weather then dry late.

A 1 hour decant (little cloudy sediment). A inspiring dark garnet color with some nice bricking on the sides for this 2nd growth. On the nose: green veggie, black olive, plum, cassis, and just a little of that Margaux perfume. Taste: A medium body, soft wine with chocolate, little black cherry, leather....a smokey tobacco slightly astringent medium finish. Low acidity, and any elegance and finesse is buried and not going to rise like a zombie from the grave...drink em if you got em.

Aged 16 Years Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky 1816

This is a great tipple as the weather cools down in the Southern Hemisphere. From Islay with plenty of peat and smokiness. A maritime seaweed note. Some say Laphroaig is even more peaty but for me, the jury is still out on that one. — 8 months ago

Absolutely John. Particularly if you like your Single Malts smoky and peaty which I do.

Singing Grüner Veltliner 2018

Straight forward easy drinking cold weather white. Citrus zip with a clean finish. Great with a simple meal of chicken, lemon, and parm. Not too much acid. Cheap and tasty. — 4 years ago

Cloudy Bay

Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Tonight I was drawn back to the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and I opened the 2020 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc. This winery is the epitome of Sauvignon Blanc in New Zealand. I have had several of their Sauvignon Blanc's and they seem to express what sauvignon blanc is supposed to be.

On the nose there are pungent aromas of grapefruit, lime, white peach, green apple, mango, cut grass and mineral notes.

On the palate there are loads of citrus fruit, grapefruit, white peach, key lime, passionfruit, guava and minerals.

This wine is light to medium bodied with a crisp clean mouthfeel with mouthwatering high acidity that leads to a long citrus mineral finish. These past several days have been very moving with weather that has shaken our area to its very core. Thunderstorms, tornado warnings and tornadoes, and heavy rains over several days and seem that they will continue for at least a few more days. I hope everyone's week is going s bit easier and please stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂

Two Vintners

Boushey Vineyard Grenache Blanc 2018

Newish vintage, 600 cases produced. 94/6 blend of Grenache Blanc and Roussanne from three vineyards: Boushey (81% GB), Weather Eye (13% GB), Olsen (6% R). Pale yellow white, excellent clarity. Floral, vanilla and mild aldehydic barnyard aromas. Guava, lactic flavors, tropical fruit finish (banana then coconut? But this ain’t no Piña colada). Lingering cherry and heavy (skin and seed) tannic aftertaste . This is either serious experimental winemaking, or ultra craft-focused ‘blanc de noir’, or is this just their iteration of a pale “orange” wine? Massive tannins for a “white” wine. Not a wine for the faint of heart. Dry, just enough acidity, fruity but still pondering this one... The trop fruit flavors backed off, with cherry and other red fruit and Grenache character flavors emerging after 30-60 minutes. Tannins also softened somewhat, with patience — 4 years ago
