The Ball Buster Barossa Valley Shiraz Blend 2010

Blend of Shiraz (77%), Cabernet Sauvignon (16%) and Merlot (7%). Deep purple core with a lighter ruby rim. Aromas of cooked blueberries, plums and dark chocolate. Same fruits on the palate with additional spicy notes of black pepper and black licorice. Long and fruity finish. Creamy texture with soft and velvety tannins. The acidity is still quite lively. Ampeleia Maremma Toscana Red Blend

Ampeleia, beyond this winery in the heart of Maremma (Tuscany) there was a swiss couple: Erica and Peter Max Suter, they bought an abandoned piece of land which since 2002 has been reorganized under the protection of Elisbetta Foradori. Roccatederighi's the ancient town nearby that spread over the Metalliferous Hills. All the Ampeleia wines bear names that recall ancestral ideas and profound concepts taken from ancient Greek culture: Kepos, Empatia, Ampeleia. Biggest enemy in the wine region is an excess heat and too much sun exposure of the vines which could provides too mushy wines or some dispreferred overipe. How does Marco Tait in the vineyards first then in the cellar, fight against such an adversary? Altitude, actually three different altitudes! Blend of Shiraz (77%), Merlot (15%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (8%) Dark and brooding black/purple color. Intense aromas and flavors of black plum/currant/cherry fruit with noticeable hints of dark chocolate, baking spices and menthol. Full bodied and powerful with a fruit forward and smokey (quite long) finish. Tannins and acidity are soft. Solid quality and opulence for the price. — 6 months ago

Basket Pressed Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Family owned winery, i went to visit last February and him and her wife are absolutely lovely. We had a marvellous lunch, all home cooked, in the barel shed. Over the top!

This is luscious, smooth, dark berries fruit, licorice and more.
It's a big wine, but not tiring and quite long too.
I am guessing the 10 years in bottle makes it more digestible, if you pass me the term.
It also looks like it could go another 10 years easily.

Amazingly reliable bottle of wine here. Lime zest and pith. Lemon, oyster shells, hint of smoke, always so wafting with oyster shells is Dampt’s Lechet. Classic as can be Chablis. Unmistakable. A piecing piquant quality to the aroma. Palate is all nerves and energy with terrific precision and depth. Deafeningly mineral and long with great juiciness and good fruit supporting the mineral finish. Good weight and heft on the palate shows it’s 1er Cru roots. Tait structure and an energetic bottle of Côte de Lechet. — 6 years ago
