Colgin Cellars

Herb Lamb Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 1994

1994 vintage. Nice fill with a slightly shrunken and fully saturated cork. Durand helped plenty in the opening assist. Not decanted and tasted after 1.25 hours open. Hadn’t tasted since the early 2000’s. Definitely dropped all the baby fat. Toffee, coffee and chocolate covered cherries in the nose. Light medium body (thought it would be a touch bigger). Still plenty of focus but slightly less grip than desired. Can it match biggie shizz like Montelena, Dunn, Diamond Creek, BV GDL Reserve, Mondavi Reserve, Araujo, Peter Michael Les Pavots, Mayacamas, etc? No. Is it really really nice? Absolutely. Can hold another 5-6 years at this juncture before boarding the downhill bell curve train. 11.8.24. — 18 days ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1986

9.3

Wow 1986 Robert Mondavi Cab from Oakville donated by Henry and Val! Opened with a group of friends. Showing great for 31 yrs old. Black fruits, cassis, great depth, reminds be of a classic Bordeaux. Label said 12.5 alcohol which made this wine hold together I think. I give this a solid 93+ Rating in my book. Thank you Robert Mondavi Sr. — 8 years ago

Charles Krug

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Est. in 1861, first winery in the Napa by Prussian-born Charles Krug. Today the winery remains under the leadership of the Peter and Marc Mondavi, whose family purchased winery in 1943. Fruit sourced mainly from five family estates in Yountville, deep Ruby with ripe dark berry scents and sweet spice. On the palate flavors of sweet blackberry and cherry with leather, cacao and vanilla oak. Soft tannins, long ending with toasty oak and fruit! Very nice! — 7 months ago

Vintage Selection Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

I gave a few of these away as gifts a few years ago. Probably shouldn't have done that because this one is singing now. NEVER would have guessed if this was a blind tasting that it was an 04 Napa...would have guessed 11 or 12. Very youthful nose, that leads to an equally youthful palate. Nose of blackberry, grilled meat...lavender<?>. Entry was blackberry, cassis, grilled meat, more to the middle was black licorice and some black pepper spice that stayed through the finish. Full bodied palate. I am still just astonished at the youth here. Finishes with a great traditional blackberry and black pepper. Tannins are much softer than the 14 VS I had 3 months ago. Autographed by Peter Sr, Jr, and Marc. This one seems to have the guts to go another 10 years easily, maybe longer. We are RIGHT THERE at the top right now, so if you have this wine I'd consider opening at least one bottle in the next month or so. — 7 years ago

Knights Bridge

Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

2012 vintage. From the only other winery in Knights Valley besides that Peter Michael endeavor. This Beckstoffer To-Kalon/To Kalon/Tokalon/ToKalon (pick your interpretation-seen 'em all) goes for a older-school, much leaner approach vs the decided, new school, über-concentrated style as far as this vineyard is concerned. Goes even leaner than the older, vineyard incorporated Mondavi Reserves from the 80's/90's (which I would rate in the middle ground). All the way to the left for the history buffs. Tremendous concentration but on the dry, dusty, dirty side vs the biggie extracted ripe style in vogue the last decade+. Instructive and elucidating. Twere I doing a Tokalon Vineyard retrospective/blowout dinner, this wine would be first. 9.6.23. — a year ago
