Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2009

Opened about an hour prior to service. The 2009 Chambertin Clos de Béze pours a brilliant ruby with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, holy shit…this came to party. There’s a mix of ripe and bruised strawberry, Bing cherry, mixed brambles, dried red flowers, sous bois, mushrooms, beautiful warm spices and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. Everything is in fantastic balance; generous and yet hitting all the classic notes. It was also my favorite with the foie gras au torchon prepared with grilled Colorado palisade peaches, toasted almonds, aged sherry gastrique, thyme and toasted brioche. Brilliant. Drink now through 2059. — 13 days ago

Clos St. Jacques Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2004

Clos Saint‑Jacques is often hailed as the “Musigny” of Gevrey‑Chambertin. It combines the signature power and structure of Gevrey with the elegance and finesse of Vosne‑Romanée, and Armand Rousseau’s bottling has always been remarkably consistent.

2004 was a challenging vintage—a weak year in which many grapes failed to reach full ripeness. Now that it has entered its drinking window, it opens up quite nicely. This is not a flamboyant style; instead, it leans more toward herbaceous notes and bay leaf, with hints of florals and red cherry. It has a mineral quality, yet without the saline or briny character often found in other Gevrey vineyards. The acidity is well‑balanced. The overall bouquet is delicately fresh, reserved rather than exuberant, yet persistent, and it doesn’t evolve dramatically over time.

Pouilly Fumé Sauvignon Blanc 2024

Vignobles Lacheteau – Pouilly-Fumé / 2024
Pouilly-Fumé AOC – Loire Valley / France 🇫🇷

Overview
100% Sauvignon Blanc from the eastern Loire, grown on classic Pouilly-Fumé terroirs dominated by limestone and flint (silex). This style emphasizes tension, minerality, and restraint rather than overt fruit, showcasing the smoky, stony expression that defines the appellation.

Aromas & Flavors
Crisp lemon zest, grapefruit peel, green apple, and white peach, layered with flinty smoke, wet stone, and subtle herbal notes. The aromatic profile is precise and lifted, with restrained fruit framed by mineral depth.

Mouthfeel
Medium-bodied with bright, linear acidity. Clean, focused, and energetic on the palate, finishing dry and refreshing with a saline-mineral edge and lingering citrus tension.

Food Pairings
Classic goat cheese (Crottin de Chavignol), oysters, shellfish, grilled fish, lemon-herb chicken, asparagus dishes, or light vegetable-forward plates.

Verdict
A textbook Pouilly-Fumé that delivers clarity, minerality, and balance. Not flashy or tropical, but elegant, terroir-driven, and highly versatile at the table.

Did You Know?
The “fumé” in Pouilly-Fumé refers to the smoky, flinty character derived from silex soils, not oak or smoke exposure, one of the Loire Valley’s most distinctive Sauvignon Blanc signatures.

🍷 Personal Pick Highlight
This is exactly the style of Sauvignon Blanc I gravitate toward: mineral-driven, restrained, and quietly complex. A refreshing counterpoint to overtly aromatic New World expressions, and a reminder of why Loire Sauvignon remains one of my benchmarks for elegance and precision.
