Yarra Yering

Underhill Shiraz 2012

A lovely nose - spice, earth and charcuterie. Really, the previous Delectable note said it all - “more Rhone than Barossa”. A medium weight savoury palate which worked well with home made pizza. With air the aromatics gave more dried meat and charcuterie notes..like a plate of freshly sliced Pastrami. Drinking at its peak I think, but will remain at this level until the end of the decade. Excellent. — a month ago

That is awesome Bob. How are you experiencing their more recent releases?

@Jan de Weerd @Doug Powers Yarra Yering has been in good hands since inception. Dr Bailey Carrodus’s last vintage was 2008 I believe. His successor, Sarah Crowe has been a more than worthy successor being awarded Winemaker of the year at least once. It is a special terroir which has been lucky to be under the stewardship of 2 gifted winemakers. The latest vintages keep on overachieving. The Dry Red No. 2 2022 was just awarded Halliday’s Red Wine of the Year.

@Doug Powers 2021 was a stellar vintage in the Yarra.

Yarra Yering

Dry White N°1 Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2021

The 3rd matching wine in the degustation at Restaurant Dan Arnold. I’ve been a long time fan of Yarra Yering back to the 1980’s, pretty much exclusively with their reds. This Dry White is a blend of Semillon and Chardonnay. ( not as per the title) Lemon and lime notes on nose and palate with M plus acid I recall. Certainly drinking this in its infancy. — 8 months ago

Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2015

My last YY 2015 Pinot Noir. A good balance between red fruits and savouriness and probably drinking at its peak. I have always loved YY Pinot Noir Noir back when it was undoubtedly the best Pinot Noir in Australia in the mid 1980’s made by the legendary Dr Bailey Carrodus. A lot more competition for that mantle these days but Yarra Yering is still kicking major goals as recently as 2 weeks ago winning a Platinum award and 97 points for their 2022 Pinot Noir at the Decanter World Wine Awards in London. The following night aromatic red florals. — 2 months ago

Yarra Valley Heathcote Shiraz Viognier Blend 2019

Took some time to open up but became delicious. Lots of fruit but not sweet. The splash of viognier softened the Syrah a bit. — 8 months ago

Smells like funky-town. Flavors are great with licorice and berry sauce. Complex. — 2 years ago

Dry Red Wine No°2 Shiraz Blend 2019

My 2nd half bottle from Flower Drum last week. Delectable this is the Dry Red No. 2 which is a Syrah based blend. No notes as such but this is a very Northern Rhone style. Like many great wines Intensity without heaviness. Medium to full bodied. — 2 months ago

Dry Red Wine No°1 Red Blend 2005

In its prime. Opened a day after trying the 100pt 2021 at the winery. The 2005 is a different beast entirely as it was made by Bailey Carrodus and the 2021 by Sarah Crowe the current winemaker. So much brambly fruit with rich opulence underpinned by fine tannins. Wonderful mature wine. — 7 months ago

Yarra Valley Dry Red Wine Red Blend 2008

Delectable, this is the Dry Red No1 Cabernet blend from Yarra Yering not Yering Station. Aromatics of mulberry and black currant. Also a lovely violet fragrance. On the medium bodied palate a red fruited sweetness with cedar and spice. Oak is totally resolved even if a touch of astringency. A remnant of dark chocolate. Drinking at its peak. An excellent Cabernet consistent with what Dry Red No. 1 always produces - proving yet again that the Yarra Valley’s best terroir is for Cabernet Sauvignon. IMO. See previous Delectable tasting notes. 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 10% Malbec, 4% Petit Verdot. PS. This 2008 was the last vintage made by the legendary founder, Dr Bailey Carrodus, before he passed. — 10 months ago

Another place Sofia and visited in 2017. A long tasting. Maybe, 15 wines or so. Cheers & happy holidays. Are you having sparkling Shiraz Christmas morning?
