This magnum from Leeuwin estate Cab art series is a garnet in colour with the rims showing alight orange tinge showing the ripening of the wine. This seven year old vintage is “a point” in terms of ripening. Definitely not a Bordeaux style can but more of a Connewarre style Cab exhibits red cherry, raspberry and leather notes. In terms of length, 40-50 sec finish. Pairs beautifully with lamb (big green egg) roast. Beautiful! — 5 years ago

Beautiful Pecorino from Abruzzo. Light & easy to enjoy with plenty of floral notes with some mild tropical fruit on the palate. Love this live version of this once in a lifetime collaboration as well. Seems like Vega & Chilton we’re loving every minute of this. — 5 years ago

Holy Shit wine. That color! This is why I fell in love with Grillet the first time I had the 1986 and 1987 vintages at the Waikiki Shell in the Summer of 1992 watching some great concert I have long since forgotten. Broke into this the other night. This was a second bottle following an Opus that had been decanting prior to this bottle. The pop and sip found it very tight. Initial aroma was like warm blackberry pie. Initial taste was heavily tilted to just fruit with a touch of currants. Fast forward to about an hour. Quick sip to see how it was coming along. Cedar and chocolate started to show up now. Nose has a little less berry and touches of earth as well. After another 45 minutes finally had the first glass. Still opening up but complexity started to shine. But the second glass really started to shine showing all of it nuances. Cedar, licorice, tobacco, graphite and spices. The two plus hours of decanting was well worth the wait. The tannins were close to perfect for me. This was a rare treat to which I owe thanks to my host for opening. — 5 years ago

It's time for some #MerlotThursday. Here is a fruit forward Merlot from Bordeaux.

Showing black and red fruits with wood, vanilla, earth, vegetables, spices, tobacco leaf, wet leaves, black tea, black pepper, spices, dark coffee, earth and leather.

Medium finish with firm tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is still young and a little harsh, even after opening up, with nice complexity and a great mouthfeel. Needed 3 hours to open up.

Showing great potential. This is from a great vintage, and will age nicely in the next 20 years. I would suggest not to touch it for another 3 years.

I've had the 2012 last year, and although this is much younger, it is much tastier already.

I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

A blend of 84% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon.

14.5% alcohol by volume.
