Chocolate, black roses, initially big black fruit and bright red fruit framed by a crisp minerality and Orange soda soaked tar. Loved it instantly, but like a Proustian girlfriend viewed in the changing light of the moon, this lycanthropic she-devil turned dark, and her venomous fangs, popping out to feed left me in a shadow of big tannins (lovely) and undulating demoniacs. Tar and blackberries descend within a rain of fine ashes, black lime and basil. Graphite and concrete seem to encircle. There is a residual whiff of grilled bone and the expected black rose petals. Licorice, black cherry, a creamy chocolate texture, an explosive grilled citrus and black lime that becomes black currant and dry graphite with dried black olive delicately rolled in phyllo-thin layers to reveal expressive, cotton-like tannins that linger in tea leaf voluptuousness! Raspberry, dried blackberry and cedar form a distinct potpourri when considered with the dried rose petal and orange bitters. There is a fleeting fruitiness that approaches strawberries dropped into a coniferous fire. Lovely, if firm tannins support a whale of a wine. Amazing depth with Roobios tea leafs, tobacco, graphite, bay leaf, bing cherry, dried black cherry and black currants on carbon paper and campfire ash, driven deep into a charred wormwood and dusty schist. Red cherry nose expands to red dye, portobello, morel and walnut shell. Dried rose petal and twisted violet petal open to soft pork and beef grilled sweetness, and loam. Lurking sensualities; dried cherries persist. A mix of cherries in varied stages of ripeness and raisination stitch themselves together in liquid satin and come so close to perfection, but there is a slight unraveling context on the finish that doesn’t disappoint, just asks for follow through. Probably comes around in time as the tannins are rustic and the wine from a stellar vintage.
