Finally getting to crack open a can of @orpheusbrewing Lyric Ale. I hung around Atlanta waiting for them to drop at @hopcitybeer the day they were released to bring back to NY. Glad I waited. Aren't too many Saison beers in a can, and I'm not sure why. It has your classic Saison notes on the nose. The palate speaks of spice and malt that's crisp and clean. The finish is lengthy with a pleasant earthy hop note that is on the dry side. Check these guys out next time in ATL. Big, just-off-white crown lingers over dark, orange-amber, but once it resides is nearly laceless with isolated organic, punctuating archipelagos. Initial, buttery nutritional yeast, crystalline mangrove honey, magnolias, marigold, candied lemon peel and sweet rosemary, but don't let the fig addition and the sweet aromatics fool you; sour and underripe complexity ensues. Medium-heavy, unfiltered mouthfeel feels petulant, but swallows almost flat due to the dichotomy of dryness. Dried and underripe apricot combo, pineapple essence, gooseberry, chalk, snail shell, gravel dust, dried violets, fishbone, key lime, tangerine zest, and leek. A blood orange and a lemon had a baby here, with beautiful blueberry eyes! It’s rhubarb pink hair smells like peaches and apricot flowers. It’s skin is beet red, bordering on blood,and it barely weighs more than a carton of cranberries. Although...Now that I’ve had time to babysit this little urchin, I realize its deceptive quality. There is a tea-like depth to this one, with shimmering ginseng, rhubarb concentrate, black lime and bitter cherry, cassis and black currant.
Its soul is shadowy, but its intentions innocent enough. Crawl with it through the brambly-wood, discover the black leaves of autumn’s demise where stark trees posture gruesomely.
