Château Thivin
Famille Geoffray Côte de Brouilly Gamay
It’s such an interesting wine to me because it shifts so dramatically w age & air: at five years it’s drinking quite nicely, with a much more vibrant fruit profile than I’ve had w other bottles & previous vintages. Tasted blind my buddy thought Languedoc & quite jammy. To my palate not jammy as fruits more small berry & not so open knit. For some reason I’ve never seemed to open these bottles at the right time, save for now, which makes me think 🤔 m a damn poor judge or these bottles are finicky, or both! Quite refined & elegant, fine black currants & blackberries.

Jul 23rd, 202414% alcohol cru Beaujolais. It’s very pretty and well made but like wtf is going on. It tastes like it could have come from Russian river valley. Not that there’s anything wrong with that necessarily and again it’s very tasty

Jan 5th, 2021Wow. Pure and exhilaratingly ripe. Translucent magenta in the glass. Perfumed and packed with purple raspberries. Finishing with a pleasant brambly zing. Only a slight hint of tannins, and while I think this could handle some time in bottle it’s just so pretty right now. One of the top three producers in Bojo imo.

Sep 7th, 2022Tasty. Dark fruits- blackberry? Dark tart cherry, with savory herbaceous notes too, tannins decent but not overpowering.

Château Thivin, Côte de Brouilly, Vintage 2019, ABV 14.1%.
Côte de Brouilly is a Beaujolais Cru named after the blue volcanic hillsides from which this wine comes, and where Château Thivin is located, in the northern part of the Beaujolais region. 🇫🇷
This wine is made exclusively from Gamay grapes which were grown on old vines, which may have contributed to the concentrated fruit aromas and flavors of this wine. 🍇
This wine has a nice structure. It is dry with medium(+) acidity, a medium(+) body, high alcohol, medium(-) tannins, and medium(+) intensity of aromas and flavors including black cherry, blackberry, plum, raisin, violet, lavender, chalk and slate. It has aging potential, but is delish even as a baby.
This wine was aged for 6 months in oak foudres prior to bottling.
We’ve paired this wine with a chicken schnitzel and a watercress-apple and fennel relish. It is a lovely complement.

Absolutely excellent in youth. Aromatics and palate are exuberant dark berries & black pepper. Perfectly balanced between fruit & structure. This has a long life ahead, but hard to ignore as a youngster. Truly great.

Feb 22nd, 2021Nose of red fruit, pomegranate, freshly cracked black pepper, lilac. Minimal tannins and a punch of acidity. The palate is simple and maybe a bit closed, but also similar to the nose. I’d give it time. There’s enough acidity to keep.
