Jan 22nd, 2021Don Melchor 2017 contains 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Franc, both from Maipo Alto. This earlier harvest resulted in precise, intense doses of cassis, raspberry and blackberry jam sprinkled with spices and country herbs. A young wine, the tannic structure bodes well for the future even with the moderate freshness. (Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous, March 2020)

I wasn’t a big fan. Ripe fruit but something off for me.

👃On the nose it had a medium(+) intensity of youthful aromas. Aromas included ripe and juicy blackberry, plum, black cherry, also violet, vegetal, toast, dark cocoa, espresso, cedar, and allspice notes.
👄 On the palate this wine was dry, it had medium acidity, a full body, high alcohol, medium(+) tannins, and medium(+) intensity in flavors consistent with the nose. It had a medium(+) finish.
This was a bold Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon from Puente Alto in the Maipo Valley. It presented really strongly on all key structural elements. It was delicious paired with grilled filet mignon, roasted veggies, and sautéed maitake mushrooms and will benefit with more time in the bottle. @win_drinks_wine thank you for introducing us to this beauty!

The real grand cru of South America. Elegant, silky, subtle and complex. Classy. Iron on the nose. Great multilayered cherry flavors. Medium persistance.

Aug 9th, 2020Loved loved loved. Drank 2017 in 2020. Soft tannins, soft fruit, low acid, does NOT need food to enjoy. Tasted at Conche y Toro. Goes down as one of my favorite wines on the planet.
