Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2020 “Pétalos” pours a deep purple color with a magenta rim and an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with ripe and tart black fruits: blackberries, black cherry, salmiakki, horse blanket, and mixed earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. A crazy, ambitious wine that’s the result of assembling over 300 plots. Between Raúl Perez and Palacios, Mencia doesn’t get much better. Drink now through 2030.

Sipping Fine Wine

Just love this wine! Nice blend of grapes from the Bierzo Valley, biodynamic. Deep Ruby with loads of Berry fruits aromas adding some sweet floral spice and flinty notes. On the palate flavors of cherry, raspberry, and strawberry with a juicy mineral edge. Well balanced and integrated with fine chalky tannins, lively acidity and a long finish ending with fruit and spicy notes. Tremendous value for such a complex wine.

Love this stuff - love this grape, big fan of Alvaro Palacios… perfumed nose of red fruit, red flowers, and gentle spices. Smooth graceful on the palate, elegantly structured, generous red berried fruit, spice, licorice all wrapped in velvet

Deep purple with a garnet core. The nose is absolutely ridiculous with jammy fruit and earth. Blue and black berries with just a touch of cranberry for kicks. It’s so pretty.

Warm and inviting, there’s a good bit of finesse and personality here. It takes around an hour for the heat to blow off and once it does it becomes silky and more refined than you’re probably assuming. More berries and earth on the palate with some really nice spice on the finish. A fun surprise of a wine.

Aint this an unexpected pretty thing.

Chewy, dense, purple goop - fudgey with syrah like outlines -mencia bones - mix of reds and whites making up remaining 8%.

Lavender, pepper, tar, and blackberry.

Slurp.

2020 vintage from Northwest Spain’s Galacia region, with moderate tannin before resting, think Merlot. Balanced. Tart cherry, blackberry, some sort of stone on the end. Really nice. Pleasant mouth filling tartness on the finish and dryness, but after the bottle is open a for a bit it’s less dry.

Want to explore more of this grape. Good sized full bodied red that struggles a bit to release subtler noted
