Edmunds St. John
Bone-Jolly El Dorado County Gamay Noir
Very interesting nose with strawberry, gooseberry, cherry and leather. This is very different from any gamay I had ever tasted so far. The palate is marked by a very strong acid backbone and a very lively, almost electric mouthfeel. There are some touches of red berries all along, very few tannins but a drying effect kick in in in the rear and a very long red berry finish. Blind I would have said it's a trousseau from Jura. I like it nevertheless and this is probably the most interesting California wine I have tested thus far (but the good stuff rarely makes it across the pond and through to Poland)

Sep 24th, 2022I was hoping for more Beaujolais-like character, but not much there.
