Freemark Abbey
Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Hints of nutmeg, cinnamon and crushed berries on the nose.
The palette is expansive with linze torte, licorice and a reasonable use of oak. Tannins are not resolved, which makes sense given the vintage. Finishes taught and long. A very good effort from a solid producer.

My kind of Napa Cab. Everything in balance. Beautiful cassis fruit, little note of eucalyptus, graphite, earth. Beautiful fruit and acidity. Long pure finish. Can't wait until they bring the dry aged strip!

Jul 1st, 2017Holy crap, this shocked me. The 2012 Freemark Abbey is perhaps the best value Napa Cab in years. Gorgeous floral nose, followed by a smooth, velvety finish of dark berries and spice. This is what Napa Cabernet is all about. Score: 95 points (Just looked: Parker gave 93 points, and WE gave 90 and must've been drinking a different wine)

Jun 10th, 2017For this only being 0.5% above the legal limit, it's a whole lot of Cabernet. Cassis, currant, cedar, fresh pine, hazelnut, and those rolled wafer cookies (and yes, I believe this is a technical term). When I imagine in my head what Napa Cabernet tastes like it's extremely close to this. Beautifully rich and unnoticeably dry.
