@Jan de Weerd recently reviewed a bottle that sounded like it might be advancing quickly, so I decided to pull my last bottle of this. Luckily, it’s drinking beautifully. Gorgeous nose shows all sorts of complexity. Earth, roasted root vegetables, macerated dried cherry, warm gravel. Rich and soft in the mouth. Totally resolved. I can’t imagine this getting any more pleasurable than the state it’s in. There’s still some significant but soft tannin, but it’s so good now I wouldn’t wait any more than a year or two to enjoy.

An intensely red-fruited Brunello. Nose has reams of deep, tangy red fruit. A bit of warm spice and old leather. A warm sandstone note. Broad and deeply flavored, it’s got intense fruit in the mouth, which turns a bit savory in the finish. Tannins are present in noticeable amount but relatively soft, with intense acids as well. This strikes me as wine that will be up-front and very enjoyable for the next few years, rather than one that has the brooding depth to cellar for the long term.

Nine year old Brunello. Vibrant, dusty dark red fruit on the palate. Nice umami notes on the background. But that’s about it. Limited layers, complexity or finish. Hmm. 🧐

Big and bold fruit forward cherry, rhubarb, tobacco and undergrowth. Balanced lingering tannins. Best on day 2.
