The ‘Sur Echalas Vineyard’ Grenache is a stunning new bottling by superstar vigneron Christophe Baron and assistant vigneronne Elizabeth Bourcier. The head-turning bouquet entices with potpourri, wild strawberry, tobacco leaf, wet stone and shades of Umami with blood orange zest and charcuterie on this highly complex and satisfying nose. The palate is lithe and light on its feet, as the wine simply dazzles across the palate. The marvelous salinity produces gobs of mouth-watering acidity. Leather, tarragon, orange zest, red cherry candy and shades of guava puree with white truffle shavings all round out this highly gratifying palate. The range imparted in the wine is second to none. The texture to this wine is also absolutely gorgeous as the wine has a seamless quality that gracefully dances across the mid-palate. To celebrate we’re raising a glass with the Oudiette x Filles ‘Les Sablonnières’ Blanc de Noirs, Extra Brut Champagne (NV).🥂🥂

This is a small batch, third-generation woman-owned and -run estate with vigneronne Margot Laurent at the helm (in terms of winemaking) arm-in-arm 💪🏻 with her sister Charlotte and their mother Florence.

It’s made with 100% pinot noir 🍇 , including pinot noir droit (a small-berried Pinot Noir clone), and aged 36 mos, lending complexity and richness.  Aging well beyond the minimum requirements for a non-vintage Champagne. 🕰️

A majority of the primary fermentation occurred in Burgundy oak barrels, subject to ten months aging (élevage) in the same oak barrels, also undergoing bâtonnage.

Oudiette x Filles practices organic farming in its vineyards south of Épernay near the village of Beaunay in the northern part of the Côte des Blancs.

In appearance this wine is pale gold with a fine-beaded and persistent mousse. Aromas and flavors include just-ripe green pear, lemon curd, apple, starfruit, citrus blossom, brioche, almond paste, marzipan, toast, biscuit. The palate is dry with a rich and creamy mouthfeel balanced by vibrantly high-toned fruit and a long, elegant finish. It’s absolutely delicious. — 2 years ago

The La Paciencia Vineyard was planted over the course of three years, with three acres each planted to Grenache, Syrah and Tempranillo. The 2015 Grenache from this vineyard is one of the best red wines from Washington that I have sampled from this warm vintage. This incredible wine was aged in a combination of neutral oak and stainless steel prior to bottling. The nose is completely intoxicating with exotic aromatics of blood orange, wild strawberries, damp earth, guava purée, and peat moss tones with wild blackberry that all take shape in the glass. The palate shows an incredible range of flavors, which include blood orange zest, forest floor, white truffle, red currant jelly and umami. The wonderful combination of saline and savory characteristics makes your mouth water and completely captivates the senses. Despite coming from a warm vintage, the level of acidity that vigneronne, Elizabeth Bourcier, was able to capture is highly impressive. We discovered discover this Garnacha Blanca blend during our May 2015 visit to Clos Mogador. Rene's son Rene had us jump in his old SUV and drove us through their steep and rocky hillside vineyards. If you've had their reds and wondered why fennel notes are there, it grows all over their property. After a tour of their vineyards we went back to their patio for a tasting...and what a view. Shown in the photos. We started the tasting with the 2010 Nelin. It was the first time we'd had it. At the time, one of the more unique whites we'd had in a long time. It was bright, fresh, subdued fruity, tangy with amazing crisp minerality. Afterwards, we went to lunch at "Amics" near by Clos Mogador. The best & most original 4 course lunches we had for seventy euros with a bottle of this wine. Great service and unparalleled accommodation. It didn't have a star but it should. The nicest couple from Brazil run it. Tonight's revisit is the 2011 and it's had a little better than 5 years in the bottle. It's definitely changed. It's, more golden now, weightier, thicker, more oily and picked up not quite a petrol quality. The fruits are; peach, apricot, pineapple, lemon & lime juice. Notes of honey, wild fragrant florals, amazing chalky minerality, perfect round acidity and a round, lush finish that we absolutely love. The blend is mostly Garnacha Blanca with some Viognier, Roussanne & Pinot Blanc. Photos of the property, views, and the father & son winemaking team of Rene & Rene Barbier. Producer history & notes...Clos Mogador produces estate bottled wines in Gratallops, Catalonia in the DOQ Priorat. Founded in 1979 by René Barbier III and his wife Isabelle Meyer. With several friends, they began replanting terraces and recuperating old ones to eventually have their first release in 1989 as Clos Mogador. This name comes from a novel written by an aunt named, Élisabeth Barbier called, “Les Gens de Mogador”, “The people of Mogador”; which chronicles the rise and fall of a family from near Avignon in France on an imaginary estate called, Mogador. Clos Mogador is 13 hectares. Six hectares are made of 80 years old Cariñena vines, two hectares of 6 years old Cabernet Sauvignon vines, three hectares of 6 years old Garnacha vines and 2 hectares of 6 year old are Syrah vines. They use mostly organic methods. It is worth knowing that at the winemaking stage, Rene Barbier uses an olive press instead of a normal wine press to extract the juice. This results in an even more intense wine from what are already highly concentrated grapes from low yields. Try the Nelin, it's simply delicious!!! Cheers. — 9 years ago

The 2016 La Rata Red Wine is a one of a kind, simply sumptuous new wine by superstar vigneronne Elizabeth Bourcier. The final blend she chose was 59% Grenache with 31% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah. The wine was largely aged in third use demi-muids as well as some stainless steel prior to bottling. The nose is downright intoxicating as the wine shows off red cherry preserves, underbrush, Umami, blood orange zest and shades of wet stone that all shine brightly on the bouquet. The freshness and tension that run through the core of wine is truly outstanding. Bright guava puree and high toned Mandarin orange peel flavors collide with minerals, wet stone, seaweed and green olive tapenade. This finishes exceedingly long with cran-cherry and blood orange zest. A resounding success, this true heavyhitter of a wine will drink marvelously in its youth and will provide drinking enjoyment for a decade or more. Drink 2019-2029- 96 — 7 years ago

I tasted the 1979 and the 1976. The 1979 wasn't stored correctly (opened) to the chagrin of the vigneronne, but still great - lost the freshness and the arômes went to the angels, but the rest was smooth and rich. The 1976 otoh was perfect - I got the bottom of the bottle and everything was in it. — 10 years ago
