Helga Nr. 69 Raspberry Sour

The best fruit beer on earth. Grateful to be having this again. Insane clarity of raspberry on the nose. Like it’s in HD. The palate is like elegant Burgundy. But it’s beer. I can’t explain it better than that. — 3 months ago

@Lyle Fass whoa…that’s quite a statement. I’ve had some of the very best from Drie Fonteinen and Cantillon and it’s hard to imagine better. Like…impossible to imagine.

@Jay Kline if you can believe it I’ve never had Cantillon or Drie Fonteinen. Go check out Borg’s website, it’s a hoot. Great copy. They also only export one stout to America sadly. Most of it stays here. I’ve always wanted to export it but it won’t work with my model.

Garún Icelandic Stout

This is 11.5%. That’s low for wine but crazy high for beer. But this pulls it off. It’s rich. And has dark chocolate and coffee flavors, which is classic stout. But it’s also fresh, textured and really long. There’s something Northern Rhone about it. Hard to describe. But that spirit is here. It’s like nothing I’ve had. A wine beer but still a beer. Quite incredible. The nose is crazy. Super aromatic. Like an old school Anchor Steam X-mas Ale vintage dated magnum from back in the day. Really incredible. — 2 years ago

From what I’ve tasted this is likely my favorite Icelandic brewery. This is light, herbal, fresh and has a long finish that echoes with dried meyer lemon. What an amazing beer! — 2 years ago

Iceland has no wine production so beer is their wine and I am very impressed as I continue to explore. This stout was amazing and I love a great new stout. The wine of beers if you will. Nose is spicy and creamy and palate is rich, butter and balanced. Long finish and even some structure. Really fresh and great acids. Long finish. A great beer. — 2 years ago
