Borg Brugghús

Garún Icelandic Stout

Lyle Fass
9.6

This is 11.5%. That’s low for wine but crazy high for beer. But this pulls it off. It’s rich. And has dark chocolate and coffee flavors, which is classic stout. But it’s also fresh, textured and really long. There’s something Northern Rhone about it. Hard to describe. But that spirit is here. It’s like nothing I’ve had. A wine beer but still a beer. Quite incredible. The nose is crazy. Super aromatic. Like an old school Anchor Steam X-mas Ale vintage dated magnum from back in the day. Really incredible. — 2 years ago

Riserva Millecento Brunello di Montalcino 2010

Surprise! Still haven’t opened it so rating it is a “hope”…think I may have opened a bottle previously…was too soon but hints of greatness linger. These need 10 yrs+ but I think it’s time...2010 Brunello by a famed better winery…bought in Cortona, Italy, next door town to the Montalcino-Montepuciano twin towns of great Italian wine. Helga Nr. 69 Raspberry Sour

The best fruit beer on earth. Grateful to be having this again. Insane clarity of raspberry on the nose. Like it’s in HD. The palate is like elegant Burgundy. But it’s beer. I can’t explain it better than that. — 4 months ago

@Lyle Fass whoa…that’s quite a statement. I’ve had some of the very best from Drie Fonteinen and Cantillon and it’s hard to imagine better. Like…impossible to imagine.

@Jay Kline if you can believe it I’ve never had Cantillon or Drie Fonteinen. Go check out Borg’s website, it’s a hoot. Great copy. They also only export one stout to America sadly. Most of it stays here. I’ve always wanted to export it but it won’t work with my model.

From what I’ve tasted this is likely my favorite Icelandic brewery. This is light, herbal, fresh and has a long finish that echoes with dried meyer lemon. What an amazing beer! — 2 years ago

This might be better than the Blueberry Sour. Unreal aromas. So fresh and so complex. Grapefruit, sweet apple flesh and lovely finesse. A stunning beer. — 3 years ago

Sous Eguisons Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Chardonnay

Absolutely stunning qpr for a serious contemplative white borg. Minerality and a coche-dury-esque gunpowder note dominate the nose along with pear lemon meringue, and some hints of spice. Palate is racy and with a thick mineral spine. Great acidity and reasonable length. Actually abuts st aubin and chassagne Montrachet. Yes!!! — 7 years ago
