Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

2019 vintage. Classic Pauillac. Cassis, lead pencil and cedar wood. Give it time to open up in the glass and see the magic unfold. A complex wine with layers of black fruit, balanced by ripe tannin and fresh acidity. Impressive mineral length. Excellent old school Pauillac. Abv. 14,5%. — 4 years ago

Varnier-Fanniere

Cuvée St. Denis Grand Cru Brut Champagne Chardonnay

Denis Varnier is one of my favorite producers in the Cote de Blancs/Avize. His passing was tragic but the magic of his work lives on in these bottles and Thanksgiving seemed like an appropriate time to enjoy one. Classic Avize power but this cuvée always has a real mineral cut to it. This was gorgeous with air, balance of pure orchard fruits, rocks, and earthy elements like mushroom and fresh cut hay. Another facet I love in these wines is the texture, there’s room for interpretation, but you cannot get around the lengthy imprint these leave on your palate. 100 CH from “Clos du Grand Père,” 5 years sur lie, 9/2014 disgorgement — 8 years ago

Muschelkalk Pinot Noir 2020

Magic.

Nose: intense but elegant game. So savory. Some lilac. Mexican Cinnamon. Wild sage.

Palate: Rich perfect deep cherry. Still red though. Licorice.

Finish is perfect. So juicy you Salvate for 2 minutes.

Perfect.

Château Belles-Graves

Lalande de Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

I haven’t had a nice Bordeaux in a while but i typically cruise the affordable side, hoping for gems. This was a pleasant surprise. Some wood and perfume on the nose. Dark fruit, I saw someone said cassis and I can go with that - full body but with some brightness and good structure. Noticeable but integrated tannins… I’m in a good state of mind and this is brining a swell of life appreciation - can’t prove that’s on account of this exact wine but that’s the black magic of it all, eh? — 4 years ago

Jean-Jacques Morel

Les Genouvrées Bourgogne 2016

Picking up a juiced pear on the nose today, but otherwise prior notes still apply:

Nose has ripe yellow apple, lightly oxidized green apple peel, baked phyllo dough, partially aromatic white flowers and damp rocks. I always get a natural wine vibe here, without the vinegar-like profile, but it seems alive!

Palate has baked green and yellow apple pastry, crisp acidity yet dense, candle wax begins on the finish and ends with dry granite. Great balance, very lengthy finish, clean and not cumbersome, superb vintage, long life ahead. We love you Jean-Jacques.

Hubert Lamy

En Remilly Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Chardonnay

Lamy’s ‘14 a Criot Batard Montrachet is up there as wines of my life so I was very excited to share this bottle with Cerasulo. Started strong with his magic work he does in Saint Aubin. I was anticipating a emotional ride, but the wine evened out and the richness took over the reductive steeliness. Felt out of balance. Delicious, yes! But a walk in heaven. Not so much. — 3 years ago

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1978

Birth year vintages are a roll of the dice but luckily I landed on a pretty solid classic - 1978. So for my birthday this year, we opened an LLC and wow was this perfect. The sommelier was surgical in removing the cork which split in half but he managed to extract it. The nose on this wine was a 10 - loads of cassis, licorice, dusty library and leather. Palate was extracted cassis, leather and great acidity and liveliness, just like my 44 year old self. It’s just pure magic when bottles this old perform - happy Friday everyone. — 4 years ago

Domaine François Cotat

La Grande Côte Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Holy cow, what a home run! This my friends its the taste of terroir. Dense and muscular, with a focused minerality that is keeping the beat.
Despite its youth it is very expressive and not holding back on its complexity. François Cotat La Grande Côte, a marvelous piece and an act in the magic of wine.
Pronounced intense aromas with a layered depth Lemon juice, kiwi, boxwood, dandelions almost reaching towards honey with a prominent Limestone mineraliy that is keeping the beat.
High piercing acidiy that cuts through the smooth and ripe edges. Dense and athletic on the mid palate with a layered complexity, salty backbone as it expands before closing up in a long tightening finish.

Kongsgaard

Napa Valley Chardonnay 2015

About what I rated the 09 in 2012 and the 14 in 2017. And I think I had a 12 not too long ago. These chards are good but this one particularly didn't hold a candle to a 14 Aubert Ritchie Chard. Hopefully not bottle variation on a 2015... Seemed to just not have a whole lot there. And I don't think it's because it is too astringent...the Judge wines seem to definitely rock it though. I got ahold of this one probably an hour after it had been open. — 7 years ago

I had this at pop and actually expected this to be a bit heavier than it was. It was fairly light but still rich. Lemon wafer, white flower and chamomile. If this is served around cellar temp, it’s actually got strong acidity and shows a good bit of minerality/limestone. This is a chardonnay that could probably evolve a bit over the course of an evening.
