Domaine du Castel

Petit Castel Kosher Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2022

From a magnum. Strong tanins at this early stage, chewy. Dark, plum nose and long finish. — 3 months ago

Castel Noarna

Vigneti Delle Dolomiti Nosiola

Dry, citrus, underripe green apple, crisp acidity. Enjoyable but not that complex. Muscadet like. — 2 years ago

Torrevento

Riserva Vigna Pedale Castel del Monte Nero di Troia 2015

Pretty solid rustic Nero di Troia. Probably the best of my 4-5 samples of this grape. 3 bicchieri is a stretch but it’s not like the Gambero Rosso guys don’t make worse calls. — 4 years ago

Torrevento

Bolonero Castel del Monte Aglianico Nero di Troia

Blend of primarily Nero di Troia with some Aglianico blended in. Dark ruby color. Aromas of tart black and blue berries, tar and bitter baker’s chocolate. Flavors of cooked blackberries, black cherries and dark plums along with notes of dark chocolate, tobacco and baking spices. Long and lingering finish. Quite ripe, juicy, full bodied and concentrated. Nicely balanced and harmonious. Fantastic QPR. Excellent find! — a month ago

Podere Forte

Petrucci Orcia Sangiovese 2018

This has to be one of the most refined and finessed sangiovese I've tried. Think Hermitage or Saint Joseph levels of refinement and balance. — 3 months ago

Podere Forte

Villaggio Rocca d'Orcia Sangiovese 2020

For a Sangiovese that’s not “ super Tuscan”, there is evident oak. But this Jr.* package is finely knit, all in balance.
Lots of chocolate, mint, leather, dark cherries and oak tannins seductively put together. More of an adventure for those with some Sangiovese experience than an introduction. With Chicken livers & Garam Masala very nice.
