L'Etoile Vin Jaune Savagnin - Chardonnay Blend 2015

Gout de Jaune. Intense, petrol bomb nose. A little austere.

The textbook 2013 L'Étoile Vin Jaune has a deep golden color and a captivating nose with aromas of exotic spices, iodine, forest floor, green nuts and a touch of volatility that added freshness. 2013 was a cooler year in the region, and despite the 14.5% alcohol, the wine feels quite fresh and balanced, with clean, focused flavors, pungent and long, very tasty, with a bitter and salty touch on the finish. It's very long and has a nice combination of power and elegance. This matured for the mandatory six-plus years in barrels under a thin veil of yeasts and was bottled in the 62-centiliter Vin Jaune bottle, clavelin. 2,500 bottles produced. This is a different wine from Joi, same producer, also very tasty, and heavy, less long perhaps compared to Joi — 7 years ago

Vin Jaune L'Etoile Savagnin 2012

100% Savagnin from vineyards in l'Étoile, a tiny appellation in the southwestern part of Jura, aged for 6 months in foudre followed by another 7 years in oak, under flor (never topped up). Intense yellow color. Quite complex nose, somewhat reminiscent of an old Fino or Amontillado, but without the intensity and salinity. Aromas of walnuts, spices (curry), a hint of burnt caramel and some subtle funk. Full bodied (it feels heavier than most Amontillados). Long, spicy finish with intense hazelnut flavors — 3 years ago

L'Étoile Moelleux Vouvray Chenin Blanc 2018

Pleasantly refreshing given the sugarload which I like to think people say about me when I’m overly excited about something. Still there is something white rose-y, persimmon-adjacent, and honeycomb funky going on. Very linear despite all its complexity like a well-made apple pie—down to earth but there’s more there than the sum of its parts. — 3 years ago
