Not a great vintage at Fritz Haag, but that doesn’t mean you don’t still get excellent wine. I’ve heard FH vintages of this era incorporate a lot of very young replanted vines. Perhaps that’s the issue. At 28 years there’s not much sweetness left, but, there’s sufficient delicacy, finesse, and nuance, to pull it through precisely with conviction. — 3 years ago
A tour d’force! power/precision/persuasive begins to outline this epic build. It’s Tannat frontman sings with real integrity and conviction. Maybe the best “big red meat wine” in Virginia. — 6 years ago
Just a little midweek celebration of, of, I don’t know, the * cough cough* conviction of both *cough cough* Manafort and Cohen.
Nice fine bead and froth. Fresh nose: apples and toasty rye bread. Some bitter pear skin. Fruit up front in the mouth and then turning minerally, the finish lingers nicely. At under $20, great value. — 6 years ago
The 2015 Pichon-Baron
has an engaging, complex bouquet of blackberry, cedar, mint and graphite, demonstrating more cohesion and more conviction than its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and extremely well-judged acidity that imbues
this Pauillac with a sense of effortlessness and class lacking in some of its peers. A stunning 2015 and one of the greatest releases from the estate. Tasted
blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, July 2019) — 5 years ago
Reminds me.of Moscato that has been aged and refined with the sweetness removed but more strong grape taste added, silky, conviction, bravo Italy, you have done well. — 6 years ago

Vintage 2010 | Explosion of red summerfruits, blackberries and cherries. Slight spicyness. Laurel. Plums. Eucalyptus. Rich vanilla taste from aging on new barrels. Much power and still very well balanced. Presents itself with conviction. — a year ago
