la Varenne de Chanzé Anjou Chenin Blanc 2019

Lees and acidity. That is the crux of it. Creates some fascinating flavor profiles- like nibbling on a Dogwood branch after it lost its leaves in the fall. Very interesting wine that is begging to be laid down in a cellar and only brought out in the next decade- it's a bit heavy handed now with the yeast and acid but has massive aging potential that I think will reveal some fascinating flavors. — 4 years ago

Russian River Valley GSM 2014

Deep ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Fruity nose with blueberries, raspberries, sweet cherries, earth, vanilla, wood, licorice, vegetables, pencil lead, wet leaves, black tea, dark coffee, tobacco leaf, spices and peppercorn.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and fruity on the palate with black currants, black plums, oak, vanilla, licorice, herbs, vegetables, spices, peppercorn, tobacco, dark chocolates, beef jerky, earth and cola.

Medium plus in finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a very enjoyable Rhone blend from Russian River Valley in California. Spicy and fruity with lots of earth notes that makes it interesting.

Nicely balanced with nice complexity and a great mouthfeel. Feels like a blend of Old and New World wine, which is always engaging and pleasant to drink.

Drinking very nicely now, as a five-year-old, and will age nicely in the next 5 years. I really enjoyed the tangy ending.

Good by itself or with food, and needs an hour to open up properly.
After 2 hours of airtime, the nose really opened up and it was so nice to smell on it for a while.

A blend of 58% Grenache 22% Mourvedre, 18% Syrah and 2% Petite Sirah. A small production of only 315 cases produced.

I paired it with Brie cheese and roasted almonds.

14.6% alcohol by volume.

The only white from Crux Winery. Crystal clear pale yellow. Beautiful and complex nose. Started out with a slight chalk and stones that was quickly overpowered by tropical fruits, citrus, and white pears. After 30 minutes or so in the glass it opened up with some undertones of lychee and light honeysuckle. Solid moderate acidity (7/10) and moderate plus body with a grippy mid palate. Started off with sweet apples and some stone fruit to finish off the palate. Acidity carries through the moderate plus finish. Lingers for a few seconds and best enjoyed just above fridge temperature. Drink till 2019. — 10 years ago

Sixpoint Brewery

Oktoberfest

Weighty wights headlessly puff hoar-breath sketches of new geographies into ruddy, amber oceans swirling. Hearty bread and malt-caramel nose, with a beurre blanc note. Orange and lemon lift this bread-y loaf with effort, but it tumbles back to grain flour and iced coffee couched in a spongey honey roll, this is the crux of its push and pull perpetuity.

Tough Love Banished Series Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout 2014

Crux Fermentation Project 2014 Banished Tough Love Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. Perhaps the best barrel aged stout I've had. More iron fist in a velvet glove than in your face bourbon and stout concoction. Intoxicating nose of vanilla beans, cherries & chocolate. Those flavors carry over in spades to the palate, but no bourbon heat kick on the finish. So well integrated. — 11 years ago

Casa Benasal Crux Garnacha Tintorera Monastrell 2017

Deep purple in color with a short purple rim.

Showing red and black fruits with wood, earth, light vegetables, spices, tobacco leaf, coffee and peppercorn.

Fruit forward with medium plus acidity.

Full bodied and dry on the palate.

Long finish with grippy tannins and tangy raspberries.

Too young right now, and will be better in 3 to 5 years.
