Catignano Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2020

Cherry and leather nose. Mid range palate , smooth at first, not heavy, really opens and shines with a Sunday gravy meat sauce.
Evidently, Catignano is a specific, higher elevation plane, and or in this case, an organic offering from Dievole. They sure do put out quite a bit.
As the wine opens w protein and acids, it’s rather tannic and juicy in the inner mouth. A surprise of quality from a large scale producer. It’s nice leathery, cherry, mineral Sangiovese perfect for tomato based pasta dishes.

Dievole Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2017

Pale garnet in color, this wine presents pronounced aromas of macerated cherries, with subtle hints of menthol and dry earth. I did not notice any floral notes.

On the palate, the wine confirms the nose, displaying medium-plus tannins and medium acidity, with a medium finish.

I believe this wine could benefit from a couple more years of aging in the cellar, although I really enjoyed it. I look forward to trying it again in 2027 or 2028.

Bright red. Sweet spice, ripe red cherry, licorice and flowers on the nose and in the mouth. Smooth and bright, and though not exactly the last word in concentration or complexity, this is downright irresistible in its juicy, fruity appeal. Podere Brizio recently changed ownership and now belongs to Dievole, the Chianti Classico producer (Podere Brizio’s previous owner, Roberto Bellini, is the man who sold the Chiesa di Santa Restituta estate to Gaja, who renamed it Pieve di Santa Restituta). Vigna di Sessina Chianti Classico Grand Selection 2015

We had this two years ago and it drank more like a BdM. A tad hefty and laced with oak and Vanillin.
Tonight, a much more integrated Sangiovese beasty. Lots of dark cherries, bright acidity, medium tannins.
With lasagna, perfect.
