Dk Grail

Domaine Jean Roger

Cuvée Tradition Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2021

2021 vintage. Medium-medium heavy body. Fleshy. Durty nose. Chunky and slightly unresolved but I think I can fix it and be happy. Good punch throughout. Under $30 USD resto cost which is increasingly holy grail for CDP rouge or blanc these daze. 04.23.25. — a year ago

Two Hands

Holy Grail Seppeltsfield Road Shiraz 2015

Another great Shiraz from Two Hands, powerful but smooth with plenty of fruit and depth. Big wine but plenty of layers and delicate floral and spice notes complement the rich black fruit. I served it a little too cold to start with which definitely suppressed the flavour but it was great to see it come to life as it warmed up. — 7 years ago

Bell's Brewery

Bell's Hopslam Malt

A bruiser, as usual. But this 2017 release seems a bit more lively than those from past years. Honey, pear tart, lush, toasty finish that doesn't let up. Worth the hype? The hunt? Maybe but this isn't quite the Holy Grail, at least today. — 8 years ago

Hall Wines

Ellie's Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Hall Wines— Ellie’s 2015 cabernet sauvignon. HOLY WINE BATMAN! This is the Holy Grail of wines. I must give it a perfect score. It’s everything I love in a Cabernet, and I mean everything. This bouquet is really pretty. Blueberry pie and cherry pie, chocolate covered cherries come to mind. Lets taste. Hummm, dark currant, blackberry, chocolate, and notes of leather are tantalizing my tongue. Now comes the cedar and spice and oak.... wow. The tannins are round and supple. This is so thick you can almost chew it. And now comes the buttery dry finish. WOW. This is a beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon. — 6 years ago

Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 2010

I met @Aaron Hamrock on Wednesday and the first wines he shared were a ‘86 Mouton (my Red Wine of the trip), a ‘90 Beausajor a ‘07 Larkmead Lark and this, the holy grail of Spanish wines. Pretty solid intro. This was rich and round but still not fully strutting in my opinion. If the dinner was 2 hours longer and it hadn’t been completely drained it would have been interesting to see where this went. I say hold if you have one, which you probably don’t. — 7 years ago

My gratitude to the good friend who gifted me with this birth year bottle. Upon opening it was in the grumpy, questionable state that old bottles sometimes show when first woken up from a long sleep. After a few minutes though, it began to show fresh, even rich, fruit, with the combination of primary and secondary aromatics that make great old burgundy such a compelling yet often frustrating Grail. Enjoying this bottle from start to finish, seeing its many angles and expressions, reminded me of the importance of drinking vs tasting. There’s an intimacy that comes only from time, attention and extended exposure. I wish I had more bottles of this beauty so I could get to know it even better! But I will rest in gratitude for the opportunity to experience this one remarkable bottle. — 8 years ago

I know it's trendy to love these great Beaujolais wines, but the more wine I drink, the more I'm looking for the holy grail of flavor without heaviness. Clean pure flavors that taste "good" from fruitiness but evoke memories from earthiness (most of my good memories took place outdoors). And wine that finishes cleanly. This one does it, with controlled power to boot. — 10 years ago
