Merweh, Jardin secret, 900m. Sémillion essentially and this is oxidative made. The nose is bonkers, intense Brazil nuts, smoke, and a distant memory of pineapple and canned apricot. Even more fun in your mouth. Fruit intensity returns, more herbal involvement (esp thyme) and there's a really pleasing structure and long finish. Pretty strong case for this being an entirely different beast to aussie and French sem. — 2 years ago
A particularly vivid shade of gold in the glass with little green flecks. Stunning perlage with tiny bubbles that rush out but soon dissipate rather quickly. Immediately you can tell this is a deep and rich champagne. The nose blooms with peaches and pears initially and honeydew providing support. There’s a bit of oak, a bit of toast, and a touch of custard. It’s such a pretty nose with a nice streak of vivid red berries behind it all.
This is a very magisterial champagne. Imperious and glorious. 66/17/17 PM/CH/PN aged for 6 years and disgorged in August of 2021. It definitely has the feel of much more mature wine than it actually is. Exceedingly dry at the Extra Brut dosage of 2 g/l, it’s still approachable and generous. The tension grows as it warms and starts to really become itself.
This just gets nicer and nicer as time goes on. So pure and clean. For some, this may be too austere but it does open itself up to you in the end. An abundance of citrus on the palate with just a bit of smoke. Impressively long finish that leaves you contemplative. A stately champagne that I will definitely need more of. — 2 years ago
