Now this is a Chenin Blanc I can get behind! Slightly aging brassy gold. Nose is so nice: sweet, oozing, bruised orchard fruit, a floral/tropical note. Sweat (but not stinky sweat). On the palate it’s terrific. Like fresh sweet slices of Anjou pear. A very slight oxidative note (but not enough to turn me off), and some bitter honey. Long finish. — 5 days ago

Sweet aroma explosion. Light honey, Mirabelle plums, apricots, white tea, candied orange peel, yet it remains so fresh.
On the palate this is so balance, so juicy, v. sweet to still fresh. And there’s depth, a hint of tannic structure, a stony, mineral finish.

I’ve had Jurassic Park Chenin from a handful of producers and I really like Jeff Fischer’s version. It’s dry Chenin in the shadow of, maybe, Huet dry Chenin. Creamy and acidic, fruity, floral, and spiced. Peaches, white flowers, and baking spices upfront. It picks up body from the lees and some time in oak. — 7 years ago

Much more subtle than I anticipated & compared to Chidaine, Huet,etc. Probably a bit closed & can use a decant at this stage. All kinds of pulverized shells & a low key minerality, long & lean in terms of texture. No wool or wax here. White flowers, Asian pear, & I want to say raw yellow zucchini ( though I may regret that). All kinds of complexity to taste. A ‘contemplative’ rather than a race horse wine-& hope my homeboy will hang onto his others so we can taste what age will do. Opened during an exhilarating Knicks win. — 4 years ago

The 2020 version of this cuvée once again notches into my top white wines ever. Elements are in balance and working with vim and vigor. Body is full, acid is bright and crystalline but somehow tender (that’s relative - it is still scorching). And the texture is world class. The floral and confectionary perfumes that emerge in time layered over wool and slate simply steal the show.

New Year, and let’s be honest the world seems to be hurtling past the point of no return into a black hole of shit, but I’m thankful for Roches Neuves / Boudignon / Huet / Closel and the other guiding lights of Loire Chenin, making what I maintain is some of the best wine on earth and selling it for a pittance (even at $80 this is a value) Until everyone else wises up, I will just be over here with my other Chenin zealots (here’s looking at you @Peter van den Besselaar ) nursing bottles of Saumur, Savennieres and Anjou and laughing at our good fortune. Le Mont is easily my favorite Chenin vineyard anywhere and 2017 I thought was particularly awesome so I bought it twice. It’s so expressive and so honest, unshowy. On second visit this wine is again a medley of zippy baked citrus, mango, ginger, passion fruit, and baking spice. Underneath it’s rich, but acidic enough to float. — 7 years ago
