Screaming Eagle

Second Flight Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2012

The color is deep purple magenta with signs of some bricking on the edges. Nose - a bit restricted with notes of brambly red berries, herbs, wet soil and graphite followed by floral scents. Taste - juicy, silky and soft. Well structured and layered. Red -plum and dark chocolate dominate with secondary notes of cedar, dry herbs, spice and espresso giving this wine a long soft finish. Luv it! — a year ago

Abreu Vineyards

Cappella Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2007

1 hour decant(decent chunky/cloudy sediment). A gorgeous dark murky purplish magenta color. On the nose: some dark cherry/blueberry, forest floor, chocolate mint, cedar. Taste: velvety, creamy, rich mouthcoating wine with a little dark cherry, earth, leather, crushed stone, and a tar/cedar long finish. Better place 2 years ago, not sure more time will do anything so drink em up — 2 years ago

A. Rafanelli

Unfiltered Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2006

I pulled this from the cellar on Father’s Day; toasting the year I became a dad. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 2006 pours a deep ruby color with a near opaque core and a magenta rim; medium+ viscosity with faint staining of the tears and lots of fine sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with powerful notes of tart dark fruits: brambles, montmornecy cherries, tobacco, dry earth, and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and zippy with tongue smacking acid. The 2006 Rafanelli Zinfandel is in a seriously great spot right now and well stored examples should hold in this position easily through the rest of this decade. Great with pizza. Drink now through 2031+. — 6 months ago

x Yes, the older vintages still look so young. Cheers!

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

A murky purple magenta color, but still appears young. Very aromatic with beautiful notes of blackberry, perfume followed by sandalwood, wet rich soil, pencil lead and sweet oak. Tastes young with tannins still present leaving many years for aging. Primary flavors of blackberry cedar and bitter sweet chocolate with secondary notes of cassis, new leather, pepper, dried herbs, and gravel giving it a long dry finish. Should pair with our Neapolitan marinara pizza and pasta dinner tonight. Looking forward to see what another several years will add to its flavor profile. — a year ago

Sandlands

Lodi Red Table Wine 2019

Popped and poured. The 2019 RTW “Lodi” appears a deep ruby color with a slight magenta tinge and a near opaque core. Viscosity is medium with no obvious staining of the tears. There appears to be some very light sediment. On the nose, whoa…this is way funkier that I recall in its youth. It smells like there’s some whole cluster being used and I love it! There is a mix of red and dark fruits; brambles and cherries with purple flowers, garrigue, dried herbs, black pepper, crushed gravel. I just want to keep smelling this. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium (+?) acid. The body is medium. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, peppery and laden with minerals. Brilliant. I knew there was a reason to hold some of these RTW’s back to see how they develop…and now I feel validated. This is so awesome. There is so much soul! Sadly, this is my last 2019. Drink now and through 2030, easy. — a year ago
