Donnafugata

Mille e Una Notte Contessa Entellina Nero d'Avola

Vintage 2020 | 12 m barrel aging, nero d’avola, syrah and petit verdot. Cedar, brushwood, sour plum, much character but to my taste a bit rough. I prefer Tancredi. — a month ago

Bera Vittorio e Figli

Arcese Arneis Blend 2022

A full bodied blend of mostly Arneis and Cortese (Arcese). Dosage at bottling makes this almost a pet nat with fleshy orchard fruit flavors and earthy, cider-y tones. Effervescent. Biodynamic. — 2 months ago

Liaison Pinot Noir 2018

Tons of sediment.
On the herbaceous side. Quite tart still. Orange peel. Tumeric. Subdued cherry. Oregano, bark. Not my all time favorite but still very good. Yet not for the uninitiated. One has to know E&M.

Buntsandstein Pinot Noir 2015

One can’t really make Pinot better than this. The Buntsandstein aka - colored Sand Stone. Is really a benchmark wine. One can debate the the style but not really the quality. 2015 was a stand out vintage. This comes from old vines. The wine is alive and talks. Yes talks to you:… Kirsch, almonds, crushed marble, black forest thyme, hint orange zest, touch oregano, … this goes on and on as more flavors evolve with air. The wine will probably age another 5-10 years.
An experience really! But not for the middle of the road „ let’s have a Pinot drinker“ - they will be disappointed ☹️.

I think this will outlast the 15’ Muschelkalk from E&M which is more delicate. One of the main issues the wine is hard to come by. Sometimes only 3 barrels are made. Next day eucalyptus and dried figs.

Baden Pinot Noir 2013

Quite earthy. Light. Ten years later for this basic wine and it still does very well. Strawberries, rhubarb, stem influence, oregano… as it opens up give it many hours! Hint raspberry. Still a lot of tannis. Given that this is the basic wine for E&M and was 20$. This is unbelievably awesome 😎. What a wine - i fear this is my last bottle - a cellar find - i am totally disorganized hahaha 😆. — 2 months ago

Muschelkalk Pinot Noir 2015

Dear Friends warning this wine needs 48 hours to open up! I kept it for that time under Argon!

Still think the 2015 Muschelkalk mights have peaked. I opened 3 bottles. The first was oxidized and the other 2 were good to world class. The cork on all three was quite soft.

The wine has this ethereal character but the twisty black forest herbs are somewhat gone. It is still great to drink - but to shine one needs stupido patience.

Calk, very faint cherry. (Collecting E&M since 2009. And have been at the winery every other year.).

If you have it you must really experiment and play around but also - drink it up! Not a wine for normal or sane people.
#Will check 2015 Bundsandstein and IDA next.

Veramente un bel vino. 94-96.
Puro ed espressivo. Intenso ed elegante.
La miglior maturità riscontrata in tutti i vini assaggiati fin’ora.

Al naso espressivo con frutta e suolo. Al palato fine, molto naturale e altrettanto preciso e pulito. Finale caldo e avvolgente.
Lascia in bocca la natura del luogo.

Baden Spätburgunder Rosé 2022

These E&M wines are just stupido! What do i mean by this? Popped opened. Joined 2 bottles into one because i was not convinced/unhappy. Got close to the sink. Then decided leave in the fridge for 2 weeks. And Voilà now quite awesome. Strawberries, tart, rhubarb, ….bark, more red than Rosé. Dark, complex, orange zest, dark cherry. Would age this 2-3 years. Revisit and then decide on even more cellar time. — 4 months ago
