New world Syrah is just so different from the Rhône. Deeper, darker, denser, though still mid weight and gentle. Much lighter smoke characteristics, more cassis, plum, dark berries. In a blind test for Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand this was the second favorite, although blind, it seems less like a Sauvignon Blanc or perhaps less like a Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.
