1962 vintage. Decanted and tasted immediately and over the course of two hours. As with all of these older vintage port corks, a Durand is a helpful "suggestion" but a funnel with a fine filtering screen is essential. Wowzers. Plenty grippy on the back end and drinking as if awakened from a nap-guilty as charged. Needs another 15 years to “let it go.” Remarkable complexity. Holy bleep. Thanksgiving 11.23.23. — a year ago
Citrus! Nose of pure citrus. Palette is citrus, almost like an orange wine but far less intense. Great for Summer where it makes one feel like one is on a tropical resort. Very enjoyable. Thirty minutes of air before consuming is essential, and I would let it warm up closer to room temperature. — 2 years ago
Wow. I’m speechless. Comes charging out of the gates and doesn't let up. Melange of tropical fruit as well as cool climate fruit on the nose, exotic yet essential. Palate is so poised, beautifully balanced, with an amazing line of acid. Oak is elegantly woven through.
Precise sweetness and tartness drill into your palate. Remarkable juice! — 3 years ago
Great value at $50.00 from K&L
Web notes,
The owner of this Chateau, Calon Segur takes some of it name Calon from the word 'calones' which were small transport skiffs that used to haul goods up and down the Gironde river. Back then boats were the best mode of conveyancing wine plus preferable to the reluctant donkey and other landlubbing transports. This fact is a big reason for this region's long successful trading history. Much to the dismay of more land locked wine making regions, Bordeaux enjoyed direct access to the water. Happily shipping great wines such as Chateau Capburn Gasqueton for centuries. As this red wine was transported away from the port, the owners would farewell it's strawberry and raspberry driven fruit flavours bound for distant thirsty lands. It's beautiful chalky tannins and fine oak would be missed as they were well on the way to our store's shelves, cellars and tummies. Hence raise a big cheers to the diminutive but very essential Calons! (And amazing value Bordeaux reds)
Chateau Capburn Gasqueton is situated in St Estephe, on the left bank of Bordeaux, France. Grapes have been grown on the property's grounds since the 12th century. However, the 18th century saw it's elevation into quality wine production when Nicolas-Alexandre, owner of Latour, Lafite and Mouton bought the Chateau along with Chateau Calon Segur. From 1894 to 2012 the Gasqueton family owned the Chateau - producing wines of great finesse and elegance. In 2013 the French insurance company Suravenir bought Chateau. Since then they have heavily invested in upgrading the estate whilst ensuring they preserve this historic and treasured wine producer. Its vineyard comprises of 62% Cabernet, 37% Merlot and a petite drop of 1% Petite Verdot! — 2 years ago

Recaredo, the legendary producer of Cava, has a still-wine label called Celler Credo where the primary focus is highlighting the Xarel-lo variety in the Alt Penedes. All of the wines are biodynamic and certified organic. This particular example comes from the family’s Serral del Bosc vineyard and has extended contact with the skins (in excess of a week). The results were more than intriguing.
Popped and poured just slightly chilled. The 2012 Estrany pours a bright gold color with medium+ viscosity and there’s even a little sign of some sediment in the last couple of pours. On the nose, the wine is developing and extremely floral with a fascinating mix of white and yellow flowers, apples and pears, some orange essential oil, and some stone fruits is the mix as well. On the palate, I think the wine is dry but almost comes across off-dry. Low tannins and I think the acid is sneaky, in the medium+ range. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and complex with palpable texture. This was a really fun pairing with causa limeña. I would say drink now but I’m sure it has plenty of what’s necessary to cellar if a bottle got forgotten. By the way, this wine is quite rare with only about 100 cases made in 2012. Villa Papiano ‘I Probi Di Papiano’ Sangiovese Riserva 2015: Medium-body. Balanced acidity. Smooth tannins. Red fruit flavors, berries and a touch of spice. Fresh & young finish. For me, this was the perfect complement to the essential food staples of Emilia-Romagna! Great day to all! Cheers🍷 — 3 years ago
