Love Habit Cabernet Franc

Inky deep purple; leather, violets, red spice (?!), blueberry on the nose; notrs of dried black cherry, olive, cinnamon, lightlyvearthy; smooth, not showy, great balanced acidity and long dusty warm tannins. Finish gives a subtle warming spiciness with no tart bite. Overall, warm glowing attractive and down to earth. Had it with pan-grilled polenta, with carrots, red and poblano peppers, baby onions, and broccolini - middle Asian spices and a bit of homemade marinara — 2 months ago

Red Santa Ynez Valley Cabernet Franc Blend

46% Cabernet franc, 27% merlot, 14%petit Verdot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon. This, despite the high content of cab franc, is quite light. Acidity is up front with the first flavors of plums, oranges, and cherries. Slight notes of oak follow and a bright finish. Easy to drink. — 5 years ago

La Petite Côte Condrieu Viognier 2019

The Dr. Pepper to shake up my Cola habit. Condrieu is something different - thick, waxy texture, concentrated like mercury. Yellow canned peaches in syrup, apricot jam, starfruit, honey, and the most awesome orange liquor.

Vin de Pays du Var Cinsault Blend Rosé 2019

9.0

Nice Provence Rose from Le Domaine de Triennes & the team of, Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanée Conti & Jacques Seysses of Dujac.

Classic, well crafted, great on a warm day & palate shifter from white to red. Excellent QPR @ $15...not giving up my Domaine Tempier habit but, will get worked into the mix.

I won’t open another bottle for one to two more years. Needs some bottle evolution to soften its sweetness and integrate in IMHO.

We’re in the habit of waiting for our Zins to age a bit, but decided to make an exception this time. Excellent decision! Scott’s Zins are good at any age. — 2 years ago

La Rioja Alta

Gran Reserva 904 Rioja Tempranillo Graciano 2010

Easily one of the finest aromas I’ve experienced in a Rioja, and indeed any wine, in the past year, truly a beguiling and complex experience that begs your nose to remain in the glass. I must note for my own posterity that on the palate I was initially a little underwhelmed. I’m not sure why. I think because this is such a subtle and elegant Rioja, and that I’m so out of the habit of drinking wines from this region and perhaps even, by extension, subtle and elegant wines as a whole. But the more I tasted it, the more I enjoyed it. I had a similar experience with the Viña Ardanza 2010 (which at the moment I prefer to this). But this 904 Gran Reserva is a beautiful, medium to light-bodied Rioja, very fruit-forward with Burgundian delicacy and a charm so typical of the finest wines of this region. A melange of coconut, vanilla, dried cherry and Mediterranean herbs are followed by an impressively saturated palate with medium orange peel acidity and very fine, resolved tannins. I must admit I cannot yet calibrate this wine with the notes of prominent critics, who talk about power, acidity and tannin, but maybe time will tell. This should be a terrific wine to follow over the next ten to twenty (plus) years. — 4 years ago

Checking my prior note and thought I’d circle back here @Josh Morgenthau as I just had this one again and had a totally different experience, much more open after 3 hours’ air and perhaps now a whisker above the 2010 Ardanza in quality, which (for me) is saying a lot with how good Ardanza was in 2010. Just an FYI if you’re sitting on a case and have been holding back..! 🙌
