Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

L'Hermitage Syrah 2011

Ripe plum, mulberry, touch of smoke, cassis, tobacco, faint olive and blueberry fruit leather. Subtle C. Howard’s Violet candy on the nose. Certainly developed over a two hour decant into many exciting layers. A superlative example of this grape and such a wonderful full bodied wine for those with all tastes and palates. — 18 days ago

Côte du Py Morgon Gamay 2022

Strawberry, blueberry with medium acid, beautiful medium ruby color, medium body with dry ending. Great on its own, even better with duck breast. — 13 days ago

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

Hermitage Blanc Marsanne Roussanne 2021

Popped and poured, enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 2021 pours a straw color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of yellow apple, peach, honeysuckle, squishy, pineapple, clove. On the palate, the wine is dry, but showing significant fruit. So much so that it almost gives the impression of being off-dry. Acid is medium. Confirming the notes from the nose where the honeysuckle note is crazy powerful. The finish is long and there’s a slightly oily texture. A great, young Chave Blanc with a very bright future. Drink now with patience to allow it to open and drink through 2046+. Bottle 05182

Côte du Py Morgon Gamay 2022

Finally got to drink one of the famous #morgon producers. Sappy red fruit, touch of enticing funk, purple floral notes and some sous bois aromas. Lushly textured on palate, iron, lofty acidity. Sure it’s a bit young but had to seize the day on this occasion. #foillardftw — 2 months ago

La Chapelle Hermitage Syrah

I was going through my La Chapelle section today and my eyes got stuck on this 1999 - bottle looked absolutely pristine and I decided it was a perfect age to drink. Cork was in great condition and the wine was powerful and youthful with no signs of oxidation. Could have kept the bottle for a few more years, but it was probably perfect today. All the complex leathery earthy goodness you expect from this wine was there. — 18 days ago
