Côte du Py Morgon Gamay 2020

9.3

What a pair w/ Crostini, Chervil Sheep Cheese & Duck Confit. 👌

Dark, juicy, lush to mid fruit core, dark cherries, strawberries, hues of blueberries, raspberries, limestone, softened granitic earth, deeper red cola, black & red licorice, baseball card bubble gum, understated fresh herbs, dark, rich, sweet earth, hints of maple syrup, tree bark w/ sap, dark & red florals for days, excellent, round acidity and a well made, balanced, relaxed tension, polished, lush finish that lasts 90 seconds. Delicious.

This is better than some premier cru red burgundies for far less $.

Absolutely one of the top three producers of Grand Cru Gamay.

Yvon is worthy to be in that group…but his wines are so difficult to come by.

Deliberate.
Yvon embodies the humble and proud vigneron, a man who would rather tend his vines than host appointments, and sell to close friends than foreign markets. He has long farmed what are sure to be among the oldest vines in the entirety of the region, predominantly centered in Fleurie. Undoubtedly, these are some of the most pure, fresh yet unctuous wines that have ever come from the Beaujolais region. Never sulfured, they are the pinnacle of freshness and drinkability upon release, yet benefit from long cellar aging as well.

I’ve had L’Ultime once. It was worth the hype.

Jean-Pierre Robinot

L'Opéra Des Vins Concerto Pineau d'Aunis 2021

I think there may be cab franc in this? Strawberries, roses, game, peppers and peppercorn, huge tannin, plums, more peppercorn, long lingering finish. Pretty great wine. I’m guessing better in a couple years. — 5 months ago

L’'Ange Vin (Jasnières) Charme Chenin Blanc

really really really special. about as profound as natural wine can get. needed an hour to really get going but entirely singular. had all of the chenin tells—orchard fruit, waxy texture, structured acidity—but so much more. very pronounced herbaceous notes and overall far more savory than i could have ever anticipated. there is no one doing it like robinot. — 3 days ago

Fêtembulles L'Opéra Des Vins Chenin Blanc 2018

Best aged bottle of this I’ve had yet. Really in a great spot. Last few bottles of Robinot in general have been disappointing, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. — 2 months ago

Saint-Pierre Chablis Chardonnay 2022

Bright lemon color with aromas of citrus, stone fruits and nutty flinty floral notes. On the palate flavors of apple, pear and citrus with floral notes and herb spice. Medium+ finish, vivid acidity ending with citrus and stony mineral spice. Nice!

Preface St. Joseph Syrah 2021

Very different St Joseph. Tons of brambly dark fruit. Nice acid and tension on the finish. But oddly lacking in tannin and structure. Savory and I appreciate the 13% abv but I think it’s missing a dimension given the price point. — 6 months ago

Well, it’s just the Preface after all.
